Manual Shift Knobs
Do E36 or E46 manual shift knobs fit the E83? If not, which ones are compatible?

Thanks. Looks great, but the eBay compatibility chart shows that it's not compatible with the X3. Is this correct?

I am also pretty sure that all manual BMW shift knobs are interchangeble.

A couple quick questions on this for anyone using the ZHP knob...
Is the shorter shift knob equally as comfortable when resting your arm on the arm rest, or even does it make any difference at all aside from psychologically, lol? Also, I take it the "M" 6 speed emblem can be swapped for a regular 6 speed emblem? Is it the same size as my current stock shift knob? Thanks in advance Last edited by sixspeedz; 02-26-2013 at 02:15 PM. |

This pretty much solved the emblem concerns... Ordered!

I just installed the ZHP knob on my car and it is great. No problem with resting the arm on the arm rest.

This was simple to do, and installed a new boot at the same time (also quite easy).
Looks great, way better than the longer knob that came from the factory, and feels smooth when shifting

Yep we have the same ZHP knob on my wife's E83, 6 speed, I love it. As far as compatibility, I just put an E21 knob on my e46 (like this one on ebay) - I drilled it deeper to get it lower on the shaft but basically fit right on.

Thanks, I put it on with a short shift kit, and love the new setup.

That looks good...was the old knob hard to take out? Can't wait to come back from deployment so I can replace my chipped knob!

It was simple, just took a hard pull and it popped right off. no face smashing thankfully!
