Thumbs down Near death experience

Yesterday I was tuning a Defender 110 with the 2.8 Bimmer motor, when the rear 1/2 shaft came out
If I had not caught it & it had come out completely, I would have had a wheel-shaft assembly flying ariound a closed room at 100 mph !
It was an open Landy, so I should be very grateful to be still writing this
This was no mechanical failure, but failure of the previous mack to tighten, or bother to, the hub

I normaly do not watch youtube for 2 reasons:
Attention span is 2 minutes max
I download speed is... sorry make that download crawl

With the wheels Andy's got, he should be having the chicks throwing moist knickers at him

The past couple days I've really been wanting another e30.

Something stripped out, caged, coils, flares for some 16x8s with sticky ass tires, and make it a dedicated auto-x and track car.

I keep going back and forth between that and just buying a $2k dirtbike and playing with that. It'd be a lot cheaper than an e30, and I dont have space for two cars at my apt. Not sure if my mom would let me store a track toy at her place (2hrs away from me)..

Coincidence. my buddy just married a chick from Madison WI...
Considering that Shelly is now living in the bush of Namibia

I don't know how rural you are Ryan, but dirt bikes soon loose their flavour when you have to trailer them to the nearest piece of real estate & you need to be hard-core to ride them in your brutal (at least to us) winters.
Rent a shed or garage & work your Beemer in there come ice

Andy, you have not yet put out a foot (MX style) whilst cornering or sliding a quad
I am not sure what hurt me most, the laughter of the onlookers or the pain
I prefer staying on a bike, as I hope to know what it does
a BMW at that
+ a Honda
+ a Yamaha
+ a ...

i was able to power slide my quad piece of cake, it had a solid rear axle, a locked diff if you will, only it was designed like that. but it was 4x4 so didn't let you step it out too far. but was a great deal of fun on the dirt and grass etc. not to mention it did actually get put to work a lot.

Just some more background if interested:
Back in the day long before i had my on road drivers licence and new an E60 from an E30 BMW, i used to do a lot of offroading stuff with my old man. I learnt to drive in a Nissan powered homebuilt offroader, based on a Suzuki SJ410, and the first car i had (though technically not mine and never a road car) was a Suzuki SJ410 pickup. Rusty as hell but i loved it. I used to call it a mini Hummer, if you google a picture you will see why. to this day i say that if you can drive that car, you can drive anything. i think it was a 600cc suzuki engine so had absolutely no balls to it what so ever and stalled at any opportunity. but there wasnt a single place i couldn't take it. but that came to an end one day when one of his workers was using it and left the handbrake off, it rolled down a steep gully never to be seen again. its probably still down there.

Well, I spent a lot of my childhood building and riding mini bikes and such, and eventually progressed to sportbikes and cruisers. I still have my cruiser, and I don't really want to insure another sportbike ($$$$$$$), so a dirtbike would still let me have a fun little bike to mess around with on the trails/fields/ice covered lakes etc..

The distance and lack of space are really the big factors for me regarding another car. My mom is thinking of selling the house in the next couple years, and if that's the case I'd be up **** creek w/o the proverbial paddle.

Right now I'm in the actual city of Madison, but there are trails about 4 miles out of town (20 minute drive for me). If the bike was kept at my mom's, I could drive straight off her property onto some trails, and from there I'd have about 50 square miles of play land for it.

Plus, Im hoping to get a hitch for the WRX so I can pull this tiny little aluminum trailer my brother bought. Wouldn't be much a hassle to transport it if I could use my DD.
