2 more mpg on the 320i

According to bmwusa, the 320i will get 24/36 mpg compared to 23/33 mpg on the 328i... Automatic transmission

Mein Auto: BMW-less for now
Wasn't it the original 328i figures?

Oddly, the X1 sdrive28i has better ratings than the 328i (24/34 vs 22/33).

While being in the derating business, BMW should also allow the 320i to run on regular (unless it REALLY hurts the mpg).

I'm wondering if this is a marketing gimmick to make a difference in mpg between the models to try and increase sales of the 320i here in the US?

I think 24/36 was actually the original rating for the 328 until the EPA audited them and found that to be optimistic. Could be deja vu. I'd actually be surprised if read world mileage is different because BMW tends to use more aggressive gear ratios in its lower powered models to eek out better acceleration.

Can't really decide what I think about the 320. A slightly nicer alternative to a Jetta or Passat? Or just underpowered... Does seem like it will be feasible to tune them to bring them up to atleast 328 levels though. My wife likes the F30 though and I bet i could get a good lease deal on one--doubt she'd miss the extra power (unless of course she knew she was getting the "lesser" model. ) With the right timing and european delivery and I bet 0 down lease in the high 2s or low 3s is very possible.

The 6MT 320i is also rated at 36 mpg highway, though the city rating drops 1 mpg to 23 vis-a-vis the 8AT.

The weight balance for the manual doesn't look right...
