Front PDC failure
Hi folks. I have a front bunper pdc that failed (can't hear it clicking) on my 2006 x5. So my whole pdc system is not working. Can I fix this on my own? Do I need to remove the whole bumper to replace the front pdc sensor? Can I try resetting fuse first (where is the fuse)? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Wow this is great. Thanks! Any harm in pulling and reinserting the fuse? Also anything I can fiddle with in the pdc control module? I basically want to try anything I can (safely) before I make the effort to remove the bumper. Thx again.

No...removing fuses should be an issue...just make sure that the ignition is in the OFF position. In fact, there should even be a fuse puller (usually red colored tweezer thingy) stored in the glove box fuse area...that is if a previous owner hasn't used it and failed to put it back in its clip.
Same with the PDC control module...though I doubt removing it will do anything unless you discover some type of water damage or infiltration etc. Good luck, if all else fails, there's always hooking up to diagnostic equipment that can communicate with the car's modules...it should reveal what sensor has recorded fault codes etc. Some examples of the fuse box with its spare fuses and fuse puller: E53 glove box fuses (you can see the spares turned horizontal)...and there should be a fuse index sheet visible when you lower the cover inside the glove box) (index pic courtesy of:Bimmerfanatic) ![]() (E39 glove box fuses...you can see the (horizontal) spare fuses stored across the top & reddish orange fuse puller along the top center of the pic below) ![]() (E34 fuse cover w/fuse index & diagram...along with spare fuses and (same) reddish orange fuse puller) (E38 front fuse box w/spare fuses in lid but fuse puller is missing) ![]()
