I'm hoping that they find some sort of cheap way to manufacture a synthetic hydrocarbons

That will probably be an option someday but right now there is plenty of oil in the ground so gasoline will be around for a long time, probably 50 years or more.


I would actually welcome widespread acceptance of electric vehicles hoping that this would reduce demand for gasoline thus lowering the price.
