Battery Cable recall

Regarding the Battery cable connnector recall: My car was built in South Africa not Munich so wondering if all assembly plants are affected by the recall ????

Couldn't this issue be easily solved by calling a dealership and asking if your VIN is part of the recall?

That would make too much sense.

I've narrowed it down in my mind to two possibillities.

idiots , obviously you guys dont know much about dealerships. they give you very little information, so i figured i could get better answers on here , but with idiots like you on here, i shouldnt waste my time.

Go to http://www.bmwvin.com, enter the last 7 characters of your VIN in the field. Submit query. The result will tell you all of the options you have, including your car's production date. From there, you will be able to determine whether or not your car has been affected based on production date. This should include all assembly plants, as the same components were used for manufacture for each of the vehicles that fall within the recall bracket.

BMW is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 1-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured December 2007 through July 2011; and 2007-2011 3-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured March 2007 through July 2011; 2007-2011 3-Series sedans manufactured March 2007 through October 2011; 2007-2011 3-Series sports wagons manufactured March 2007 through June 2011; and 2009-2011 Z4 vehicles manufactured March 2009 through June 2011.

I took my '10 328 Coupe in yesterday for the 3rd annual low mileage maintenance (oil/filter/wiper inserts). I had previously read about the battery cable recall, however didn't think of it at the time. I assume I'll be getting a notice in the near future. The car has been flawless since delivery 3/1/10 and 13700 miles ago.

Took my car in to the dealer to investigate a check engine light, at which time they informed me that my car fell under the recall. Car had to stay overnight for the cable replacement, waiting patiently until I get it back.

I took my baby in for an oil change yesterday, and the dealership had NO CLUE about the recall. I was baffled, because the Bimmers sitting in their lot fell under the recall. I said, "What year are those BMW's you have out there in your inventory?" And when the sales rep told me, and I mentioned the recall, he just shrugged his shoulders and was thus enlightened by my wisdom.

I've learned the hard way, that not all dealerships are equal. Some of them are just plain horrible to deal with. This is why the dealer that I frequent for service is well out of my way, but their exemplary service is well worth the drive.

Anyways, got my car back with a shiny new positive battery cable. I heard this adds about 15HP

Only during thunderstorms, when the air is already ionized. In clear weather it's maybe half that.
