Just spent about 3 cumulative hours drilling the head off the bolt that the triple square spun on. Titanium is some tough mofo stuff! Finally got the center out. Now have 4 bolt shanks to drill out.....

Work-hardening when drilled/machined.

(1) drill slowly (rpm)

(2) plenty of cutting fluid

(3) if chips stop being formed, STOP drilling and sharpen/change drill bits

(4) it is possible to work-harden Titanium to the point than only Carbide will cut it. You are in serious trouble if it gets to that point.

Good luck, Don!

One done 3 to go! Here's the finished product guys. One front wheel. All bolts are clear-coated all centers are sanded and ready for paint. Think the bolts came out pretty nice did three coats of the 2k clear-coat adhered very very well. Bolts were soaking in isopropyl alcohol prior to being sprayed I pulled them out dried them and 30 seconds later they were sprayed to minimize oxidation. About 30 hours in so far the easy stuff's left prep work took forever! For the bolts I used red loctite ( never plan on taking them apart again). The loctite acted as a lube and they went together pretty easy.

Looking really good! Are your barrels powder coated a gun metal color? I was thinking they were polished until I saw the latest photos. May wind up considering similar given how pitted the barrels are on the set I'm working on. I'm almost thinking about finding someone who'll machine turn ten thousandths or so off.

Barrels are a silver flake it's much brighter in person it's got a tiny bit of dark gray mixed in. The powder looks awesome IMO.

Sigh. Got my metal valve stems today three of four stripped soooooo i've got some downtime. Going to tear apart the one rim that's together and clearcoat the centers. Was just gonna leave them painted but, clearcoat will look much better I think. Just sucks.
