M6/6-Series - Radar Detector / Laser Shifter Options

I am interested to hear what other M6 and/or 6-series owners have done and/or are doing for adding police radar detection and laser detection/shifting devices to their vehicles.

What brands have you chosen and location options on the dash, windshield or rear view mirror for placement, as well as the more expensive and effective custom installed stealth configurations. Any thoughts as well as photos would be appreciated...

Don't know if it is available in your neck of the woods but I have Stinger VIP installed in mine with duo laser detect and shifter in the front and duo at the back as well. Works well.

Stinger VIP

mlai:

I checked out the Stinger VIP web site and am impressed by their clean looking and technologically sophisticated design and capabilities.

Unfortunately, they use lasers to jam laser detectors, which is illegal in the United States.

Their system is the most elegant of all that I have seen, utilizing technology for miniaturization and sensitivity. That also explains its $3,000+ cost....

Radar-Mirror.com - Most Discreet and Clean Option for USA

Having had an ESCORT Passport 9500ci stealth radar detector / laser detector-shifter system in my 2007 M-B ML63 AMG, I can attest to its effectiveness and value. I met a fellow enthusiast who introduced me to Radar-Mirror.com and how they incorporated the functions of the separate display module into the interior rear-view mirror for a most discreet and elegant custom installation solution. I am leaning towards getting this system for my 2014 BMW M6 Coupe, once it has been delivered. Here is some additional information:

Radar-Mirror.com is The Leader in Custom Integrated Rear View Mirror Systems™ for luxury, exotic and high performance automobiles. They specialize in custom installation of aftermarket electronic information systems into your vehicle's factory rear view mirror. Non-factory electronic components such as radar detectors, laser jammers or vehicle monitoring gauges are typically found stuck on the windshield, mounted on top of the dashboard or in another location that immediately appears out of place.

In addition to compromising the factory appearance of your car's interior the presence of such devices often invites theft, resulting in damage to your vehicle and loss of the device. This is particularly common with radar detectors. In the event you are pulled over for speeding, surveys among law enforcement officers confirm the presence of a radar detector hanging from your windshield in plain sight will increase the probability that you will receive a citation.

With a Custom Integrated Rear View Mirror System from Radar-Mirror.com you can enjoy all of the benefits and protection from your radar detector, laser jammer, gauge assembly, or other electronic information system without the clutter, cords, inconvenience and risks normally associated with these kind of components.

Radar-Mirror.com pioneered the use of custom translucent two way mirrors for radar displays and is the exclusive provider of integrated vehicle monitoring systems for Horsepower Freaks.
Radar-Mirror.com is an authorized dealer for Escort Radar, Beltronics, AEM and PLX Devices.

On my 650 I have a K40 hard wired into the system. The dealer did the job so there
is no conflict as to warranty. It is completely undectable. There are 2 warning lights
on the dash to tell you if the threat is ahead or behind you. I thought about the
escort but decided that constantly mounting and unmounting on the windshield would
be a pain. I have a 2014 M6 GC on order and plan to do the same thing.

Nice find, the radar mirror looks great, I really like how it's able to integrate with the Valentine One also even if it's not a custom installed radar detector. Would be awesome if they do that for other detectors such as the Passport 9500ix or the Redline.

Although I would prefer the Valentine One or one of Escort's radar detector the hardwired K40 would be a much better choice. Constantly mounting and taking it off is a pain...

Next Generation of Escort Passport 9500ci

I am waiting for Escort to update their Passport 9500ci, which I currently have in my ML63 AMG to the next generation, that will incorporate their latest technology that they have in the windshield mounted Passport MAX2. Essentially, it will have the most sensitivity of all radar / laser detectors currently available, as well as the very helpful Escort LIVE feature that syncs with your smartphone to provide a very early warning of either a police car, radar or laser ahead by one (1) mile. I have been using the Escort Live with my current Passport 9500ci but it required an additional component to be installed and is just one more element to be located somewhere inside the vehicle. I anticipate that Escort will probably release this next generation of the 9500ci sometime in 2015.

While K40 has definitely improved its product with its most current generation, I really do prefer the more frequent technological improvements and updates that Escort does with its products.

Well I would had recommend the Laser Interceptor however they have stopped making their laser jammers for now.

But here is a test we did this summer between the Blinder and the HP-905

What about the AL priority?

AL Priority

extremeromance:

From what I have read and seen online, including YouTube videos, I am seriously going to consider installing the AL Priority system into my next vehicle in 2016, whatever I decide it will be. I am very impressed with that system and consider it one of the best currently on the market. It appears that this system is currently the only laser jamming system that effectively jams all existing laser gun, including the vaunted Dragon Eye 2 (released in 2014).

It will have the add on modules of:
- AntiLaser Air - for controling the system with my iPhone
- AntiLaser RD Control - for added radar detection
- AntiLaser LCC Sensor- filtering for Laser Cruise Control signal
- AntiLaser gSpeed - GPS Antenna for defiining speed limits

With all of these add ons, the system will be around $2,000 before any labor cost for installation. While this is not inexpensive, for those of us who travel frequently through many states, this system will pay for itself in a very short period.

What are your thoughts...?

I have the ALPriority on my M6 with 3 heads up front and 2 in the rear for laser jamming and for radar I have the Bel STiR+l. The hardware for both isn't cheap by any means and it's probably the most expensive out there right now but the protection you get is second to none. I think I spent about $1,000 for installation of the system.

ALPriority frequently releases updates and its very simple to keep up to date with the latest revision of firmware. I have been lasered twice while driving over the speed limit and didn't get pulled over.

I purchased both the Bel STiR+ and ALPriority at the same time from http://www.bestradardetectors.net/ and saved quite a bit of money on the Bel STiR+ since I purchased the ALPriority.

Simplest solution for RD. Stick a 9500ix to your windshield. Isn't as pretty and flashy as the rest of the mods but easiest to remove/upgrade over the life of the car. For the shifter you're playing a high-stakes game if they catch you with it.
