When we bought our new X3, we were given training on the iDrive, break-in, BMW Assist (I've had MIS graduate courses that were less technical) but I just noticed that we didn't get key codes for the BMW fobs. We did get codes when we bought the 2009 335 and the 2010 535 xi. Does BMW still issue key codes for 2013?

What's a key code?

It's a code number so that the dealer service department can program another key fob in case you lose or damage yours. I did check the case containing the owner's manual and "welcome kit" but didn't find any key code tags. We'll call the dealership to check, but maybe such things aren't used anymore?
I just thought I'd check with the X3 aficionados thank you in advance.

I don't recall seeing or getting any. My guess is that it's not required and just driven off the VIN, if you need a new key. Please post back what you find to confirm.

I have no key codes for my '11 X3 either.
When you call the dealership to ask about the key codes, ask them about the cost to replace a lost key. It's not just the cost of a replacement key fob, it's the cost of the required programming too. You'll find that it will add up to a several hundred dollar replacement cost. |

Thanks for the prompt replies. The cost of a new key fob was posted at my dealer's service desk as $220. Pretty steep in my book, so I'll have to be really careful. I'll post what else I find out.

Found out from BMW USA that there are no key codes issued, you get replacement key fobs from your dealer or BMW Service Center. Again, thank you all for the prompt replies.
