F12 / F13 (2012 - Current)
The future is now! The all new 6 series coupe (F12) and convertible (F13) details are out and dealers are taking orders. Still no word on when the 4 door Gran Coupe will go into production. |

how do I see samples of BMW individual colors? ie tanzanite blue
Hello
New to this forum! Have owned 2004 645 for last 7 years, now I am planning on getting a new one. I can't seem to find any dealer has samples of the BMW individual colors? I'm interested in tanzanite blue, but hesitant to pay $1800 for a color I can't see first. Miz |

Check out 6Post. Several months ago someone took delivery of a Tanzanite 6GC with a Champagne interior, if memory serves. It was a stunning car.
Seeing these exclusive colors in person is going to be a difficult task. Their production numbers are extremely low, and most of them are custom orders. The best you can probably do is ask around on the different forums for a lot of pics of the different colors. I've personally tried to capture and post my car in multiple different lights at different angles to portray the variability of CB. Pictures don't do many of these colors justice, but you can get a pretty good idea of the true color. If you get really lucky, you might find someone you could meet up with to see the color in person. I had a hard time with Carbon Black finding high definition pictures in good lighting as well as different kinds of lighting. While CB is somewhat exclusive being an M Sport color, I'd guess that the ratio of CB to Tanzanite is close to 100:1.

)Meeting someone who has the color that interests you is the best and worst way to confirm the appearance: Do you really want another Tanzanite Blue car within driving distance of yours? Individual paints are at once breathtaking and subtle in person; distinctive without going over the top. You won't be disappointed!

Is the extra cost ($1800) for individual colors because the colors are higher quality paint in any way or is the cost only for exclusivity?
I have an easier time justifying the cost if I knew I was getting a more premium product. Miz |

My understanding is that it's more of a volume thing as well as the special concoction and metallic flecks they use in the paint. I seriously doubt that an Individual color is less likely to rust, scratch, etc. than the normal/standard metallic paint.
I recently saw a video of Individual paint being sprayed on by a man rather than a machine, but this could have just been for show more than anything. Honestly, I think I'd rather have the machine anyway. BMW's 5 layer (if I recall correctly) technique for their vehicles is so good that I can't imagine going another route for the Individuals.

Just like with every other high-end feature, the margin on individual color there is probably highest for the manufacturer. Was it worth over 1000 for the ceramic controls? Probably not, but I picked my car from the lot, so I payed for it. Is it worth 1800 for individual color? That depends how much that matters to you and how much 1800 means to you. I would guess that BMW costs for the color are only a fraction of that. Think of the incremental margin for iPhone / iPad - I remember seeing a whopping increase from the basic model to the top model.
For colors, I find ebaymotors excellent - even if you don't find a 6er in tanzanite blue, you can probably find another BMW in that color. Most of the cars on auction have decent photos.
