2014 Tech/NAV differences
We are planning to order a 2014 X3 28i and debating between the Tech pkg or just NAV alone. One thing we miss out is the HUD on the Tech pkg, and we are fine without it. Besides that does anybody know what else is different between the two options. Now that the Top view camera is part of ZDA (we are getting that) I don't see much difference? Can anybody confirm if Enhanced USB integration is part of Tech and/or NAV? I see it as an add-on.
Also are there differences in the instrument panel for Nav directions between Tech pkg and NAV alone. Thanks |

i was just at my dealer yesterday trying to find out more about the 2014 I ordered. As of 3/6 they updated the tech package. Enhanced USB and bluetooth with smartphone integration was a separate $500 option, as of 3/6 it is now a part of the tech package and they increased the cost of the tech package from $3000 to $3150.
Besides the HUD and enhanced usb.. there is not any other differences I believe. When you select just the navigation system it adds all the other little things (i.e. bmw app, etc) The top view camera is an additional option with the drivers assistance package. To get it you have to select the drivers assistance package for $950 then add the sub option top view camera for another $350. |

HUD is awesome. Once you have it you once, you will get on the next car. It peviously was $1,150 so it was effectively reduced for the 2014 X3.

The problem with packages is that they work well for some people and not for others. Too bad you cannot configure the vehicle ala-carte in the U.S. like some geographies apparently allow.

What does the enhanced USB and bluetooth give?

You can sync your smartphone with the car and then stream music, or Nav directions through the car's speakers. Without USB/Bluetooth integration I believe you only get handsfree calling.

My recent order also shows the $3150 tech package with the enhanced USB and Bluetooth.

After the price had changed I did get my dealership to hold to the original price and they ate the increase in cost on the package.
They agreed BMW has not done very good at getting news out there about the MY 2014. They are taking orders for them but do not even have pictures or any real information out about the changes. |

Hmmmm...I placed an order yesterday for a '14 X3 35i. I did my research using the price list on this site. I chose Nav (609) and not the Tech Pkg (ZTP). The price diff was $1000 and the Heads Up Display is not worth $1000 to me. I did want the Enhanced USB/Bluetooth because I might need those integration features in the future.
When I got to the dealer I learned about the March 6th config changes that automatically include the 6NS Bluetooth when you chose the Nav (609). No problem, I wanted that anyway. I was kinda ticked at the $150 price increase in the Nav package, but what can you say...the list was current as of 6 Mar and I was operating off old info. I did not explicitly have him price the tech package since I did not want the heads up display. However...if the Tech Package (ZTP) is now priced at $3150 and includes 6NS at that price (it did not include 6NS in the original price list as posted on this site), then the heads up display cost just dropped by $500. I need to rethink if the heads up display is worth $500 to me now...

yes they took what was a separate $500 options and included it in the tech package for only $150 now. I would say get it. When you trade in/sell the car in a couple years people will want both of those options because they will probably start being on a lot of other new cars by that point.
Also, i could be wrong, but i think the only way you can get the enhanced USB is with the tech package now. I do not think it is a stand alone option anymore. |

Another way to do the math

That means Nav (609) + Bluetooth (6NS) = $2650. Tech Package (now includes Bluetooth) at $3150. Therefore, Heads UP display is now $500. All of the above numbers are MSRP. Anyway, I'm going to give my advisor a call tomorrow and see if they can do something...

Is the enhanced USB the same as the USB input for iPod etc on the earlier years or is it something new?

I don't understand why they took out Rear cam from tech package. In my opinion it's more useful than a HUD.

I'm glad I got the '13 because I wanted the top view camera. For '14 it would have a problem because with it bundled into Driver Assistance Package I would have had to consider eliminating the heated steering wheel (which I love for New England Winter), which was not compatible with Driver Assistance and MSport Packages. I didn't get HUD but on hindsight, I guess I could have gotten it as a standalone option. More bling than actual usefulness in my view. I absolutely use the camera all the time.

I ordered my 2014 X3 as well. I skipped Tech pack and ordered NAV alone.

Did you have to pay the $500 extra for Enhanced USB+Bluetooth? Did you also get Rear cam?

6NH Hands-free Bluetooth and USB audio connection allows you to dial/talk handsfree on your Bluetooth-enabled phone and import/play music via the USB pot from an iPod, MP3 player or USB stick/thumbdrive. In 2013 and 2014 this is standard equipment on both the X3 28i and 35i. In 2004/5 (way back in the dawn of time when the X3 was born from the ooze) this was an extra cost option (included with some package if I recall). 6NS Enhanced USB and Bluetooth plus Smartphone (2014) or 6NL BMW Assist with Enhance Bluetooth and USB (2013) gives you the ability to stream music over Bluetooth and view & edit your email and calendar on your phone from the car's iDrive system. Features vary quite a bit by phone type. Here is where it gets tricky...
If you want to see what phones & music player s integrate with your car, go to this site: http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...hframedin.aspx Enter your phone and the type of Bluetooth/USB (regular or enhanced) and you'll get a list of supported features for that specific phone and carrier. USA site. There are probably similar sites in other countries.

Great reply. So basically they took a no cost 2013 Nav add on (enhanced USB) and made it a $500 mandatory add on with 2014 Nav (plus making the Nav costlier by $150). Not entirely reasonable when technology is getting cheaper by the day. Can anybody confirm with their order that 2014 Nav + Enhanced USB is $2650 and not $2150? |

I have by advisor looking into it...might be a beginning of the model year pricing/config glitch. If it is true that the Nav plus mandatory 6NS is $2650 and the ZTP (Nav with mandatory 6NS plus Heads up) is $3150, then the Heads Up is going for $500 in 2014 and it was $1300 standalone in 2013! And it means that the Nav alone was $2150 in 2013 and is now $2650. Ouch!

It's an "MSport" incompatibility. It was possible to have both with SAP sport steering wheel but I wanted MSport. Must be some difference in the wheel, not allowing heating + DA package (... it's the lane assist vibrating that I suspect is the issue).
