300,000 mile update - 2006 325i
Just passed the 300,000 mile mark. A small oil leak has started somewhere, but it's not so bad as it needs to be topped off before 5,000 mile service.
Adaptive cruise control is not working, which takes out all the cruise control functions. Passenger restraint system light is on - my car was not covered under the recall to fix this. Adaptive headlight control module drowned in a water leak, and the headlight assembly is starting to rattle. Original bulbs are still functioning, just pointed straight ahead with no swivel. Idrive needs to be rebooted occasionally due to not loading fully. Engine is running perfectly Original pumps still running fine |

All highway?

So essentially, most of the technology is screwy, but mechanically it's ok.
Glad to hear about the report. Hopefully those fixes won't be much

Question #2: Were you the only owner of this car? In any case, it's awesome to hear stories like this! I'm happy for you.

Used to be a highway. Moved a couple months ago so I'm exclusively doing the Route 15 trip between Frederick and leesburg now. Cut my commute from 1:15 each way to 35 each way.
Totaled all the repairs up and if I did everything at once it would be around $7-8k of repairs. Headlights with the assemblies alone would be $4k. Last edited by steverequiem; 03-09-2013 at 09:07 AM. |

I don't drive my car everyday, but I'd be extremely happy if I could get to half of the miles you drove! Could you share with us how you took care of your car? For example: how often did you change the oil, fluid flushes, etc?

Changed the oil every 5-8000 miles. Fluids every 100,000.
Forgot to add to the original list. Changed the rear shocks at 275,000. |

Just proves that BMW makes a durable product. My M3 vert was at 284K miles when I sold it to a friend.
I bet most electric issues are simply circuit board cracks or water intrusion... Excellent |

Great stuff! Still on original water pump as well, you have given much hope to many of us!
I have a 2007 with everything still original though with only a fraction of your mileage. Good luck to you! |

Would you mind detailing some of what the 7-8k worth of repairs what spent on.

Haven't spent it yet, it's an option. Although that's roughly bluebook value for the car as is. It's been free and clear for a long while so I think if more things break, I'll just call it a day and take whatever they give me to put down on a new one.
The adaptive headlights + assemblies go for around $4k for both of them. The adaptive cruise control module is 2k on its own, plus programming costs The passenger seat sensor is 800-1000 to get replaced. It's also due for its fluid flush |

That is impressive, I have 51,000 on my car I have a along way to get to that mileage.

Wow! Very impressive... I just broke 81,000 miles last week with my E90 and I thought THAT was a lot! My car is just a baby compared to your 300,000-miler!

BTW, you might be able to pick up some used headlight units over at www.pgauto.com not far off of your commute!

Well who would pay 4 grand for adaptive front lights.. and 2 grand for adaptive cruise control?! Well that's not bad, not like those really hamper the function of the car much. 300k is impressive, happy motoring!

Are you on original battery, MAF sensor, brake rotor?
Is it manual or automatic? I am half way your miles. |

So far so good no problems. Drive your car with care. Don't hit any curbs. Do drive like a my mother used to say "cowboy". And your. Car will last a long time.

Curb has been hit unfortunately. Wife says that if the heated seats break we are trading it in immediately.

It's a manual. Brake rotors have been changed a few times with brake service.

Original water pump (specially on a 2006) after 300 000 miles.
As it should.

I have (I was told) the entire service history for my recently purchased 2006 E90 325i. I got the car with 78,800 miles and have since run the clock up to 80,000.
It has had several oil changes (at about 10,000 mile intervals) a couple of air filters, a BMW factory battery (just before I purchased it) and both front and rear brakes serviced (including pads and rotors). I have never had a car that needed both front and rear brakes replaced before 100,000 miles but I don't know the driving habits of the previous owner and she did live in a metropolitan area so it may not be the car's fault. Could also be that she was ripped off and just needed front pads which would be pretty normal for 75,000 miles. (Although my 1996 Camry made it over 100,000 miles with the original brake linings.) Other than the brakes that sounds pretty good to me. And now I have new rotors and pads less than 5,000 miles ago. Steve, my car is like yours only without the adaptive headlights, so I hope to have the same success! |
