BMW x3 20i - 600kms - Engine Clapping when touching the accelarator at 1.5 RPM?

Good Day all,

I Just had a full car replacement 3weeks ago for a faulty car. I got a brand new one. I noticed that teh engine sound is a bit weird , but when I took it to the dealer they adviced that this is the normal sound of the new Twin Power TURBO ENGINES when cold.

Today whil i was driving to work and after I parked, I noticed a clapping sound only when I press teh accelarator gently and suddenly at arround 1 - 1.5 RPM. Is this Normal as well or there is something wrong with the engine or is it an adjustment ? can someone adivice .

Could this be a result of a bad fuel issue?

What you may be hearing is the Direct Injection of the fuel system. DI creates a diesel like sound especially at idle.

So this is Normal ?

hmm, that certainly sounds more mechanical than what I was expecting.

I'd visit the dealership and ask to hear another 20i then start your car while their technicians are observing.

I found this video clip of an N20 motor with a cold air intake. You'll note the DI is noticeable but does not sound mechanical like the sound in your video clip.

I did visited the dealer after I sent them this video. However the car was well hot when I reached them and the sound was much quiter than this and they said its normal to tik while cold

Hi All
I've took the car to the dealer yesteday compalining about the tiking sound that you heard in the vedio the slight knocking @ 1.5 RPM or when dirving on a slope.

The tiking Disel sound is normal sound of all TWIN POWER TURBO engines. I heard another and a 3 series that has same engine and the sound is similar .. However, to be honest the Video sound is much louder than reality. and when the engine is warm the sound is less.

as for the knocking sound, they connected the car for diagnosis and it reported no faults as I was told that this cars has a Knocking sensor so what i am hearing is of a bad fuel although i use octaine 95 which is the highest in my country, yet, the dealer told me not to use it again and to stick to octain 92 and the make a full tank after the tank is emty ..

Will keep u updated once this is done .
