I run winter wheels w/ Blizzak WS70's on them. Zero issues with snow and ice. Good winter tires are essential for those climates with snow/ice. My car has DTC, which won't allow much slip and it is sometimes hard to get the car moving on ice without a little slip -- a quick press of the DTC button allows wheels to spin, but keeps all other stability controls active.

Which tires do you currently have on the car and what is the condition of the tires (new, bald, ...)?

DSC includes DTC according to the 2004 545i manual, pg 79.
As already noted, you need snow tires. They will turn the car into a tank.

I had always thought all e60's had this. Is this an option?
