2005 545i Quad Exhaust

I just got my 545 and want to put a quad exhaust like the M5's have but have been discouraged by other bmw owners because they say it will never work or that it will have to have a "dummy kit" installed? I'm looking for anyone who has done this or anyone who knows how I can do this. (I'm pretty determined!!)

There is a Magnaflow quad exhaust on acuteperformance.com
You can do it, but don't expect power gains. It is mainly for looks. I had a quad exhaust on my old 530, I didn't lose significant power, but I didn't gain anything either. The only thing about a quad setup is you have to bash the battery box in to fit the right side tips, this doesn't damage the battery at all, just notches the box so that the tips will fit.

Pjinca- How about remus quad, do you think will there be any performance change/Power gain?

I have true dual borla exhaust with quad tips on my 550i. It sounds really good like a v8 suppose to sound. It can be done.

Nope, the Remus is over priced and under performing. It sounds okay, not loud at all, no drone, but not much difference over the stock system to be honest. Not worth the $$$$$. I haven't seen Dyno #'s for the Magnaflow, but if you insist on going quads the Magnaflow is fairly cheap. I wanted proven gains, so I stuck with single sided RPI exhaust to give me the exhaust note I love and REAL HP gains.

I called Magna and they said they dont have a quad setup for E60.. The only option is remus and i am not comfortable because those pipes are meant for 525 and 530, i am also worried if there will be any loss of power.. I might probably end up with RPI or Eiesmann dual tip exhaust

It's going to have to be customs made, which is fine. Just find a reputable shop.

Is this a custom setup using Borla parts? If so, what components do you have? Any droning? Most of the quad tip setups I've seen use Magnaflow.

Will M5 Exhaust Fit 545I

Searching for information on M5 Exhaust for 545 to convert to quad system, anyone know if it will fit, not rear mufflers, just front and intermediate knowing the battery box is in the way of right muffler space.

Thanks,

Nothing wrong with an m5 look, just don't put m5 badges

I am going for that m5 look too on my 535i

Is there any way the muffler shop can shorten the length of the exhaust tips? I think they stick too far out. They kind of ruin the overall shape of the awesome M5 bumper. Shorten and cover them with the rounded edge muffler tip covers and you are set!

Congrats!

Congrats!

Yea I told them to leave them a little bit longer, I plan on making them shorter myself after I install the painted bumper for a perfect fit. I do like the rounded edges tips but that would be a project for down the road

Misinformation. Magnaflow doesn't make a quad exhaust specifically for the 550i. However, they do make a dyno proven full cat-back exhaust for it. The Magnaflow-based quad setups seen on the forums are all custom.

You can definitely install it differently to make the exhaust tips shorter.

I'm not sure which kit had to bang the battery box... although I have a 535xi so unless the undercarriage is that different.... Mine is as close to the umnitza exhaust. I have no idea if it is.. or is another brand. I bought it for parts, but it was so nice I used the entire thing.

What I did was take a grommet out of the trunk and extended the hanger for the "dummy" tips.. worked great and fit great. Unless the new exhaust has a really weird side tip it should fit fine. Getting an exhaust shop to do it is a must unless you have some mad skills at welding and adjusting things.

I did a quad set up on my 545i with Borla dual in/out for center section, and out to vibrant ultra quiet resonators then to 3.5 dual stagger tips. Nice low rumble, no droning at all, opens up nicely on WOT, enough to be heard but not annoying.
