E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993. |

so terrible that BMW stopped it after only 1 or 2 years in the e30. the motor doesnt belong in an e30 and BMW realized that very quick.

So you beat the snot out of the rocker shafts to get them out? They are not pressed in, FYI, and if you actually read the Bently, it explains fully how to remove them with your with not much more effort than a pinky.
I have torn down so many motors that people think you have to beat the rocker shafts out. Because of it, there is a huge box of botched rocker arms sitting under my desk to show people what happens when you do that. And people wonder why rocker arm breakage is common ![]() Steve, Good&Tight doesn't build turbo kits for a living lol, it's a hobby that he is good at. |

Actually the rocker axles didnt take too much effort to get them out. My rocker arms are perfectly fine.

Hey guys (not that I was friends with anyone in the first place) I am back now. Needless to say that my car has been on the back burner forever! I am now getting back to it finally! However the M10 is still in pieces and still hasnt made its way to the shop to be cleaned and looked over.
I have done a "little" bit of research and have decided that if a M10 will still power this car, it will just be easier and more cost effective for me to just buy a used M10 and throw it in. However if I buy a used engine I was thinking of swapping in a M20 from a 6 cyl car. I have read that I need the engine, trans, ECU, driveshaft and mounts from a 6 cyl car. Is this correct? Or am I missing information? What I am unsure of is what year(s) are compatible with my car. For instance, can I use a m20 from a '91 325i or does it have to come from a 87? or 86 if they were around then? Also would I need to swap in other pieces from a 6 cyl car? Things like the radiator, A/C system, P/S? Sorry for the questions and for my very little amount of research. Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks P.S. I am not looking for a fight or pointless arguing, just looking for some solid help. Thanks. |

you can put in any m20 motor. but the 88-91 will be the better choice. less liters, but higher revving more hp. you can probably hit a local yard and pick up a full driveline, and computers.

As long as it's a motor from a 325i, all m20's are mechanically the same.

You will also need the engine harness.

Well as some of you have seen my other threads, I do have this car in running order albeit poorly running order. I will be pulling the gas tank to clean it out throughly and also pulling both pumps to clean them out and make sure they are operating properly. After all that I will blow the hard lines wil air to make sure they are clear and buying a new fuel filter.
Stay tuned for further progress. Thanks. |

Well I managed to get the car running better. I would say its around 90% in terms of running good. Horrible way to judge it I know but you guys get the point. However i think that my dizzy is trippin out on me thats why it was hesitating before hand. I learned there are two different dizzy's offer in my year and two different ICM's. each of these have different timing sets. There is still a little more testing to do so I can decide on whether or not the dizzy is bad so that will happen soon.
I did just get it back from the muffler shop and now the car is a lot quieter. The old exhaust had rusted through on the catback portion. So I bought a dynomax super turbo muffler and had them make new piping (2") from the cat back. Sounds nice. Has a deep tone to it. |

Well no real updates on this car as of now. I did go get it smogged and registered. It failed the first smog (broken exhaust) but then i ran some seafoam through it and fixed the piping and it passed easily.
It needs either a new rack and pinion or for me to just rebuild the stocker. I hooked my P/S back up and it leaks like no other from the inner tie rod on the driverside. This could be the reason it shakes around 60-65 on the fwy. When I get some more time I will look into it. I will note that this car is fun to drive even with the M10. Let me say that since it has been raining here, that factory LSD is getting some use via sliding around. It needs to be rebuilt also but it is still working decently. |

Well haven't posted much here in awhile. And to be honest nothing really excited to post. I recently installed a Alpine HU (CDE-133BT) plan on figuring out what speakers i want to run next. I also recieved some parts to fix my leaky rack.
I ordered a rebuild kit from BMW (which still isnt here yet!) but all the other pieces I order are in. All pictured: small bags are misc clamps.

Well just found out today (almost a month later) that the rebuild kit for the rack isn't availible in the US. They have to get it from germany which is going to take another 3 weeks!!
Guess I will be waiting some more. |

Well i scored yesterday at the junkyard. I picked up two sets of pemium rear speakers for my car. Of course I will only be utilizing one of them (the black pair) and I will just hoard the other pair (tan, less desireable) they sound much better than the standard speakers! I spent $30 for both sets, im happy!

Well he is one picture of the car as it sits today. Its pretty clean for being a '84. There is still plenty of work to be done. But as of now its good driving it back and forth to work. I do need a AC bracket to mount the compressor, I have looked at the local yard but I came up empty. There is a picture of the muffler too.

Here is a very short clip of the dynomax muffler @ idle. Nice deep tone.

Plastic pivot for release fork New release fork New retaining spring Guibo(flex coupling) Transmission mounts Trans input shaft seal Guide tube Selector rod seal rear main seal New flywheel bolts New pressure plate bolts 17mm hex head drain/fill plug socket tool Pilot bearing puller And because it has been raining new tail light gaskets The clutch kit will come with the pilot bearing, release bearing, pressure plate and disc Will keep you guys informed.
