E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135. |

Servicing an 06 118i
Hi all,
Just purchased myself a used 118i that needs quiet abit of TLC (hence the really cheap price) Heres a list of things that i think need attention. Since this is my first 1 series im open to suggestions on to what could be done to get the car in A1 condition. 1) I want to service the 6 speed auto. I believe the car uses a ZF 6HP19Z gearbox found in many other bmw variants (is this correct?) And can i use this DIY as a guide even though its for a 5 series? http://forums.5series.net/diy-do-you...-refill-88129/ 2) DTC light & park brake light both on orange, the seller took it to bmw and was told it was an internal failure and believes that the DTC unit needs to be replaced and reprogrammed. Told me i could do it myself and reprogram it manually? Is this true? 3) Car is leaking power steering fluid, as an agreement of our deal he said he would get it fixed. I suppose ill just have to wait and see if its fixed or just "patched up" I am barely able to turn the steering wheel with 1 finger if the car is parked and idling. Is this normal? Please let me know if theirs anything else i need to add to the service list as this car will be for my wife so it will have to be reliable. Car has 69,xxx kilometers Thanks everyone, Regards.

there is a reason he is getting rid of it with only 69k on it.unless the price on this is amazingly great I'd run from this car

69k is high for here in the Philippines cause of the traffic, cars barely get to see more then 70kmp/h. My mother in laws mazda 3 has 59k and is 07. I almost bought an 2008 Sti with 16k.
Car was sold for 665,000 php. 2005 116i selling for 800k+ if i spend 100k thats still ok with me. (1 USD = 40.5 PHP) And the sellers side line is buying and selling cars...

Hi,
Thanks for your post. Since my last post im pleased to report everything is fixed. I changed engine oil with shell helix ultra 5w40 and has bmw long life approval. Rear diff was done with Royal Purple 75w90. As for the leaking power steering turned out to be a loose hose on the reservoir. And finally i got rid of the DTC light and orange park brake light by cleaning out the steering angle sensor. The optical disc was extremely dirty. Code went away after a short drive of cleaning. Regards

I took out the airbag and steering wheel and inside it there is a cd like part that was dusty. Basically the optical sensor could no longer read it.
I also followed this diy found on e90 forum. It was very helpful! www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=520467
