Crankcase Vent Valves
Remove the following covers. Locate the cap and pry off cap with angled screw driver, be sure to get all the clips off Remove the seal and spring as shown. Compare parts old vs new to make sure you have the correct part also you can see where the defect is. Insert new spring and seal. Also observe notch on valve cover make sure the vent cover notch aligns with that marking for proper install. When replacing cap you should hear 6 clicks to confirm proper seating. Replace all the covers (it helps to put grease on the holes of the valve cover badges they insert much easier) clear all check engine lights using scan tool. That's it your done! Happy speeding!!!

Thank you for the DIY Nitrogen. At which mileage should I consider doing the CCV?

Thanks......Mine was prompted by a check engine light. So I don't really know but mine went out at 100k miles. I would say around that would be the target or a little sooner. Rubber only lasts for so long. As you can see in the picture how it was torn.

I'm only at 57k right now, but I'll probably do it around 75k. I'm still amazed that your car made it up to 122k with only a few issues!

Was there something going on with the car that made you do this?

I replaced my CCV a couple months ago. I bought two CCV's based on the 645i CCV DIY also posted here. I returned one because I only found one CCV on my car which agrees with your DIY for the 650i.
So this was one of the changes made when they updated the N62 motor I guess from the 645i to the 650i (and 550i , 750i)? You may want to update your very excellent DIY to let folks know. Nice job on the post.

Yes, a worn CCV can cause poor idle and smoke.
