Need help with an M3 option question

I've owned an 07 E92 328 and a 10 E92 335 but never had the pleasure of owning an M3. I'm considering buying an 08 E93 with only 7K miles on it and I have questions about options. Can someone tell me what the ZTP technology package includes? Don't have the original sticker for the car to look at. the car also has the ZPP premium package. What's that include? Has 0752 enhanced premium sound. Can Anyone shed some light on this stuff for me? Is there anything I should have on the car that I should look for? thanks

Enter the VIN here: www.bmwvin.com

I would rather get a 2009 if you want navigation, but that's me.

Did they upgrade the m3 Nav system in 2009?

Are you saying that MW upgraded the M3 Nav system in 2009? Is there an upgrade I can do on a 2008 to the OS to get there?

Thanks

Thanks this was very useful. I also found the 2008 order guide on here and that shows all of the options. The car is like new and I don't think there have been many upgrades to the M3 since 2008 except for the LCI for the coupe in 2011 where the taillights got changed and maybe the head lit cluster. Am I right? I don't think the LCi included any body or front/rear bumper cover changes.

MY2009 introduced the latest Nav for the E9x M3. All the hardware (monitor, computer and controller) and software were upgraded.

Retrofit is possible by aftermarket companies only and not BMW-sanctioned.

Please contact forum vendor BimmerTech for pricing. Remember, this is not BMW-sanctioned or supported.

As someone who has owned an 08 and an 11, if you are a techy guy and use the nav, the upgrade is big. You get a controller with 8 buttons not two for easier access, a larger screen, a hard drive for the nav and 12gb of music, full or split screen, and you can have nav on the larger left screen and entertainment displayed on the right screen.

The Nav Question is Big

I have the newer nav set up in my '12 F10 and it is very nice. I played with the older nav system in the '08 M3 today and its not horrible. My only worry is that my newer Blackberry will connect to the system. I havent tried it yet. I can deal with the one menu button I think and a couple of extra clicks. I dont use the Nav all that much actually. The Sirius works well which is way more important to me.

Technic can chime in on this, but if you do an upgrade, it'll cost around $3,000. AND if you need some sort of coding update, you'll have to put the original iDrive back in.

Get the newer nav system by buying a newer M3.

Retrofitting sounds risky to me

I get your point. Thing is I saw an '11 E92 today with 7K miles. AW with Fox Red and CF roof (great combo), everything buy competition but the dude wants $58K for the car. The Nav is just like my '12 F10's system - really nice. I had no Nav in my '10 335 so I can live without it. Thing is - is a 7K miles 2008 M3 risky to buy?

Is it at a BMW dealer? If so then request a dealer-inspection report.

I paid $200 for my own 2008 M3 dealer-inspection when I put it up for sale so the buyer could have some peace of mind of what he was buying. And did the same for a 2004 M3 and a 2007 GTI at a VW dealer. You can ask the buyer -if private- to take it to a local BMW and you could pay for the inspection and service history report.

To me, that's much better than a CARFAX.

The only thing to pay attention in the 2008 M3 is something related to the engine main bearing. You will find different versions of what actually is wrong -or not- with it if you search, but the fact of the matter is that by 2009 the main bearing was replaced as part of the S65 OEM running changes.

My 2008 E90 M3 had no engine problems in almost 3 years and 32,000 miles (the AC compressor was replaced), and I tracked that car. 100,000+ miles 2008 M3 are already showing up at forums and for sale without reported engine problem.

Just do your homework and you will be fine...
