Radio problem

I have a 2004 X5 3.0d
The radio or CD works for 30 seconds and turns off ?

Also have no LED / illumination

Has anyone experienced this before ?

Looks like you have a MID that is not functioning right.

Thanks for your reply, at the risk of sounding naive, what's a MID ?

Multi-Function Info Display. The thing that looks like the radio is not the radio. The real radio module is in the rear next to the battery.

FYI:

-

BTW...and neither is the nav monitor below the "radio"

Another FYI: if you have the MID, the in-dash CD player (or cassette player on some early models) contains both the radio and/or CD player/CASS player:

(in-dash CD/radio)

If your vehicle has the onBoard Nav monitor...then as upallnight stated...the radio is located in the rear...BELOW the spare tire and under the removable panel (with BMW embossed on it) that is down in the battery "pit"...actually right in front of it:

(radio is component with big wiring harness attached to it - in front of the battery)
