Front Windshield Moulding

Does anyone know if it's easy to install the moulding yourself? Mine is cracked from the sun and is ugly. I've found one on eBay:

I believe that the screen has to come out to replace the rubber trim correctly, it is probably better to get a professional to remove and replace it as the sealant around the screen needs to merge with the rubber trim to ensure a tight seal. I do not believe it is that expensive, just ensure you get a windscreen company who will do it without damage to the screen on removal.

Here is a DIY that was created on the M6 board, pretty simple actually. No removal of windshield necessary. I am close to doing mine also, in researching other BMW models you can use soapy water to help squeeze the trim into the channel. Clyde in the post below bought some special lubricant.

We live and learn!!!! I should remember my old mantra! "Every day is a learning day". I based my comments on watching a professional who cut the old trim off and then cut through the windscreen sealant, I asked him was this how it is done he said yes! When he put the new screen in he pressed the trim into the sealant before it went off!!! I much prefer the thread from the M5 forum to do the job, which is why this forum is the best of the best!!!!

I decided to order this and had it installed today by my BMW indie. Apparently, when these come form the dealer, they are in a special large box so they are not folded.

This eBay seller folds the sides to make it fit into a nice small tube.

Once unfolded, it left bends at the corners that make it very difficult to totally flatten out on the car.

He has a tough time getting it to work out flat on the car. I think it may be OK but not a good experience on this one. I would go to the dealer for this part.

Hi ! you could try a hair dryer or heat gun as most plastics and rubber do have a "memory" which often returns when heated.

I got it to lay flat but a less careful installer would not have done a good job.

My main point was that great deals are not always great deals.
