I installed Kellener Hamburg Sport wheels and Michelin Sport A/S+ tires. 10k miles on the setup so far and still in love:

Living in MA, you know the roads aren't all that great! While some love the look of larger wheels, they do affect the ride some and with less (already stiff) rubber, you're more prone to damage a tire or crack a rim if you start to go with a bigger wheel. Your car, your choice, your money. For me, the car handles fine with the stock wheels, and I can't see them while I'm driving, so it isn't a big deal. Because the vehicle is heavy, your wear factor isn't generally very good and going to lower profile tires means it gets worse. If you drive it a lot in the winter, consider winter tires and wheels, and swap them after the spring freeze/thaw cycle and they've fixed most of the potholes.

@ Jad...

I agree, would only be using for spring / summer, then switching back to stock rims for winter use... I've purchased the wheel protection plan, and I believe high performance rims are covered as well, as long as they are BMW certified.
