Microfilters vs. Air filters

Microfilters vs. Air filters - are they the same thing? How many filters do the X5 have?

Hi, not sure specifically about X5s, but assuming they are like all the other BMWs I've owned, the air filter is used to filter engine air. The microfilter, also known as the cabin microfilter, sits in the engine compartment near the firewall upper, and filters the air coming into the passenger cabin.

Does that help?

Actually, there are two different types of A/C filters. One goes under the hood, and the other goes under the passenger side dashboard.

I have 3 different cabin air filters in my car.

There are 2 charcoal ones that go underneath the hood.

Then there is more 'regular' filter that goes underneath the glove box.

That's correct. There are two of the same filters in the under hood location near the shock tower and one under the passenger side dashboard.
