Correct. This is exactly what I've done with my car. I have no rear entertainment.
I actually have a spare Video Module retrofit kit for sale on ebay, though the auction ends tomorrow. I purchased 2 kits while BMW had them on sale.

What exactly is a "retrofit option" exactly? And I also have some fears about updating the firmware . Have any people had failures? If so can it w factory reset and start over or is the module fried in the process?

The E65/E66 keeps a list of all installed options in the CAS module and LM module (redundancy). A proper retrofit just adds the option to your list. Then if a software update or coding change is done to your car, the BMW programing/coding tool will expect a Video Module even if it wasn't installed from the factory. If you are only doing coding (that's all I did), a fried module is unlikely.
BMWcoding.com is a good spot if you want to learn more.

Please forgive the redundancy but I'm all kinds of confused between the US and European requirements and options.

Could someone clarify this? In my case, I have the rear entertainment package with the monitor in the center console and six disc DVD changer in the rear.

What's step 1? :what:

So to recap:

1. Find, purchase and use Dashsoft to change command line #3002, pos1 from 55 to 5f to enable DVD in the iDrive menu. Pos5 is irrelevant in the states.

2. Find, purchase and install the dongle, either the nav2tv (usa) or the toysformycar (eu).

That should be it?

Anyone in the NYC area who might be so kind

As to program my Mmi for me so I can have the tv and Bluetooth etc options on on the front? I already have the rear factory entertainment package. I'm just afraid to tackle this on my own and the dash soft equipment too expensive for something ill only use once or twice.. Thank you.
