Question about 2.5 engine

Hello everyone I just purchased a 2006 x3 2.5 or so I think.. My question is that I read from many reviews that BMW changed the engine in 2006 and onward to the 3.0 and that the 2.5 doesn't exist in the 2006 model. Now the dealer I bought it from says it's a 2006 but reputable websites are saying in 2006 they never offered a 2.5..

Anyone know if this is true please help!

Does a 2006 x3 really exist with a 2.5??????
Thanks, Gom.

Yes, it does.

They continued turning out the two engine choices at the plant in Austria for 2006.

It's just that in the U.S. market the 2.5i was withdrawn for 2006 because few buyers went for it.

For everywhere else in the world, it was still a fairly popular choice.

It's the same basic engine with smaller displacement, and a few minor differences in related components.

Fuel economy might be only about 1 or 2 mpg better, so the main attraction was the lower entry price, which surprisingly was as much as $5K in Canada.

But of course it wasn't the engine that made the difference in price, it was the standard equipment that came with which engine.
The 2.5i came with standard A/C not Auto. Climate Control, no heated seats, different style of alloy wheels, no storage nets on the back of the front seats, and a few other minor differences.

One interesting difference in the engines is that the 2.5 has a compression ratio of 10.5:1 whereas the 3.0 is 10.1:1

No need to feel inferior - it's a perfectly good engine.

This might suggest that you need to take the requirement of premium fuel even more seriously for the 2.5

Yes, the 2.5i was offered in most other markets outside the US for 2006. Differences were as mentioned above.
