Any solution to hard downshifting when rolling to a stop

My 2011 just reached 12k miles and the trans is downshifting hard when I roll to a stop, it also happens when I give a bit of gas and let go when I roll start from a deadstop. Local dealer was nice enough to had reprogram at their own dime since the car didn't have any fault code. The "Clunk" is definately felt everyday and by the tech at the dealer. Anyone has this issue and gotten a fix correctly from the dealer?

Thanks for any input!

So did the reprogram fix it?

There was a similar known issue on early e70s

Nope... It's still there.

What were the solution on the early ones?

And do keep in mind that your warranty booklet does not say "BMW will repair any defect that has a code"...they are on the hook to fix problems code or no code, your dealer is lazy. IMO

The trans reset was the first thing the dealer did but didn't work so they proceed to reprogram.

My is a X35.

My googlefu is weak and all I found are problems associate with early gen X5s trans problem.

This is the seventh X5 we have had... It's the worst one. So far, passenger mirror been replaced, then it's the door panel got messed up in the process. The blower motor was recently repl bc of unpleasant screeching noise. The engine fan been repl for the second time... Now it's this trans problem...

Prob our last X5.

I just picked up a 2008 4.8i and have the same downshifting issue. There is an rpm spike and the only way to resolve it is to down shift manually into first just before you stop. Any further feedback is greatly appreciated.

Mine is going back to the dealer thurs. I'm thinking this is mechanical maybe fluid related. It only doesn't it after the car is driven a few miles... On the plus side, since the reflashed, my MPG has increased almost by 1 mpg. Figure that.

Car went back to dealer Thursday, they check trans oil and its a pint low. Filled it but apparently it didn't solve the issue. It's still at dealer over the weekend maybe til Tuesday the earliest. The high note is that my loaner is a 2013 740i M pkg.

transmission downshift thump at a full stop

i can the transmission reflashed the other day. It didnt help. I did notice one thing. The shop forman at BMW said that if the floor mat pushes against the gas pedal, the transmission thinks you will attempt a rolling start so it downshifts roughly. I did notice that when i brake, I usually lift off the brake slightly before it reaches a complete stop (like most good drivers) to prevent the suspension form giving you whiplash. Every time I did that, the car almost anticipated that I would be hitting the gas a downshifted roughly. If I dont lift off the pedal or keep the car in manual mode, it doesn't thump??? Seems like a programming issue to me. Not sure how to accomplish it. will look into it further.

This appears to be similar to issues experienced with the E53 X5. Doesn't appear there was ever a conclusive cause / resolution to the problem.

That's interesting.... I use the fitted weather tech tray so I'm pretty sure it not slidin forward to affect the gas pedal.... Idk what's next to try.

Update... Still not resolved. Dealer now say they will open a Puma case.... What's next guys? Puma always seems to me a nice way to say you are screwed and we have no clue how to fix it.

Did this happen since new, or did it arise later?

And if it arose later, what event occurred right before?

I noticed something else about this problem... When I stop at an intersection and wait to make a hard left (ie, turning into a driveway while wsiting for the on coming traffic), the car drivetrain feels like its grinding (I'm lack a more descriptive word here).

Also, the outer edge of my new left front tires are feathering and one end of each outer treadblock is chewed up pretty badly (I had an alignment in Jan when I got my tires put on). I think its not just a transmission problem but something with the xDrive.

Everytime I made a hard left, the front end feels its "slipping"...

Update... Brought the car in yesterday, they pinned it down to a transfer case problem... Waiting to see what the fix is.
