I agree 100%. The communication really is a fiasco, whatever the outcome is. Not at all what I expect from BMW. Right now I am just trying to find my happy place and not be so mad about it (so far it isn't working ). Perhaps your dealership is correct......

If anyone else hears anything please post to let us know. Perhaps it will be the first one to get there's in. Pharding if yours went into production today you will probably have early next week then?
Thanks for the info, I have asked my CA to contact your CA .... we'll see what happens. It would be so much simpler if a simple offical BMW announcement would have been made!

I agree that a simple announcement or email to the dealers would be in order to avoid mass confusion and angst.

Today I got my VIN and production number for my 2014 X3. It will be complete on April 3. I spoke with BMW Customer Service 3 times today. 1 person said that the new substantially faster iDrive with more robust processor and larger hard drive is in. The other 2 people said that the Customer Relations Department has no way of knowing. I filed a formal complaint with BMW NA because of the confusion on a car that I ordered which is in production. My dealer has said that I can refuse the X3 after production if it does not have the upgraded iDrive and Nav system. I am going to do just that if it does not have the new electronics. However I am annoyed with BMW right now.

Good call. My dealer hasn't told me I can refuse the order, but they knew going in I wasn't going to be happy if the new tech wasn't in it. I just won't give them the cash, worst case I burn a grand and have to order from somewhere else, I can live w/ that.

How do you file a formal complain? I would like to do the same. This is unacceptable.

The one I ordered goes into production on April 4 and I don't even know what it looks like! I guess I can guess based on spy photos. Is this usual for BMW? Maybe they don't want the competition to know?

Talk about shooting yourself in both feet! Do they really care that little about their customers?
The executive decision makers should be red faced over this boondogle.

I'm fairly confident the lci isn't rolling out till my 15. I'd be happy for an update to the exterior but I'm not counting on it.

My dealership hasn't told me I could refuse the delivery if I wanted to. Doesn't really matter because I am trading a car in a negotiated value and can not really wait till July production

If I could wait, my argument would be that the car did not come with the equipment listed in the package. If you look at the ordering guide, that the dealerships do have and we used when I ordered the car, the tech package has "advanced real time traffic". "Advanced real time traffic" is only available on the updated iDrive 4.2. If the car comes with the current iDrive it will only have the real time traffic (there are different features to the two systems)

Might be a way out for those that can wait but their dealerships will not work with them.

I guess if you follow that logic, that the ordering guide lists "advanced real time traffic" then maybe the car will have it and BMW NA has just done a horrible job informing dealerships since many of us have received conflicting reports from them.

Pharding please update us on how to file a formal complaint with BMW NA. I think they deserve to hear about how much this has upset the BMW enthusiasts on this forum. This is not the way to treat loyal customers.

There two ways to file a complaint. The easiest is to call BMW Customer Relations at 800.831.1117 and explain that you want to file a formal complaint. Ask them to record your complaint in their system. They will key it in and it will be reviewed by higher management. They will want your contact information and production number. Complaints are taken seriously because BMW does not want to sell you one BMW. They want to nurture the relationship so that you will be a repeat owner. If you have purchased / leased prior BMWs, it helps to mention the number. What I generally do is to explain that such and such is out of character with BMW's high standards. They care about their customers and will do what is reasonable. I have purchased / leased 8 BMWs and this 2014 X3 business is unbelievable and totally out of character with them.

The other way which is even more effective is to write a letter to BMW Customer Relations and email it to customerrelations@bmwusa.com

I wasn't aware that BMW would be adding Lane Departure to ZDA... Interesting.

It won't. The LD warning is part of ZDB, a $700 add on. Can't always believe what you read on the interwebs

The X3 will be getting the new navigation system as of April 2013 production

As quoted in an email response from my Military Sales broker in Germany. Got the info straight from BMW.

I hope/assume so. Be careful since there are always differences between us and European models. I assume he got word from bmw about what is coming to the us models, right?

Of course. I'm not paying thank kind of money for a vehicle I can't bring back to the states. These guys only deal in US Spec cars.

BTW, I'm placing my order on Friday.

My 2014 X3 went into production on March 23. Hopefully it is still considered the same as an April 2013 Production in terms of the Nav/iDrive it carries. Is there a way to determine this based on the VIN during/after production?

Yes. It will also be stamped on the driver side tag. Going into production doesn't mean built. They probably won't start till April 1. It takes 40 hrs to build an x3. Mine is also in production but I'm sure it will be an April build date.

Question... How long does it take to see the status on the website. My dealer the same day we placed the order with him, placed the order with BMW. They gave me a copy of the Inquiry Report that has a production number on it with status 112.

Your dealer should know which weeks he has been allocated build slots for, and which of his build slots have been assigned to your X3.

Cool Ordered my X3 35i today

I ordered my 2014 X3 35i today. Searched plenty on this forum and found really helpful links which helped me haggle the prices.

X3 35i
Carbon black, oyster nevada leather
M-sport package
Premium package
Cold weather package
Parking assistance package

Total $50,690 (had to pay the stupid MACO and training fee). Hope this is a good price. I think dealer charged approx 1K in margin above invoice.

Did not opt for premium sound after looking at reviews on this site. Essentially I listen to radio only and sometime my ipod. Was not worth the $800. Same for the gimmicky top view cameras and navigation system. My $150 garmin gives me lifetime updates and HD traffic.

Am I missing something in this config? I'm not sure if I can change it right now but don't want to get buyers remorse.

A few questions though:

1) Dealer kept on insisting about extended warranty. I did not opt for it now. Will decide depending on the vehicle's performance over the next 3 years.

2) He also insisted on getting a 3M protection fild on the oyster nevada leather for $500 because he has seen so many customers with discolored seats from leather. Should I opt for it? What is the community's experience with oyster leather.

3) I'm probably going to go for extended warranty on tires and wheels. 1.5K for 5 years. Is this a lot?

1) Buy it closer to the end of the factory warranty.
2) Maybe...
3) If you can afford the warranty then you can afford to replace a tire and a wheel. Pass.

Heard from Jon Shafer about my 2014 order in production. According to him it WILL NOT have the new Nav/iDrive. The release date for the updated Nav is not known at this time as BMW has not made any announcements.
Hope this clears the confusion.

It doesn't... BMW told my guy here in Germany that the US Spec X3 will have the new iDrive and Nav. Everything that I've seen from BMW from announcements and emails to my broker have said as much.
