It could be any number/combination of things... What kind of driving do you do? city vs highway? Hard driving vs easy driving? How is the air pressure in your tires? The last time your oxygen sensors were replaced? What kind of oil are you using? Is there a lot more weight from other people riding in your car or do you do most of your driving alone?

Any of these things could affect it. If you do mostly city driving, 21 MPG is the avg for these cars, so that is not out of the ordinary.

Only 21 miles to the gallon huh? Back in my day we had to walk to 3 miles to school and work because the car couldn't go that far on a full tank.

You little punks with your fancy smancy 21 gallons! Sheesh.

They were saying on the radio yesterday that some state legeslatures are complaining that with the higher fule efficancy we are getting that the gas taxes aren't enough to maintain the roads. Thanks for doing your part.

I live up on a hill and am only getting 23 average, but I get close to 30 on the highway.

Andy.

During the winter months I'm at 17 mpg - mostly city/parkway driving. The Avg speed in my OBC is 20-25 mph. My 323i averaged 24 mpg city.

I had this happen as well. It could be that you need your spark plugs replaced or the oxygen sensors. I had my plugs replaced but this did not help.
