Rust spots on running boards

I have searched and found 2 cases where this is reported, but on previous gen X5's.

For example... http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...ng+boards+rust

I got my '13 X6 with 4200 miles on it for a great discount (driven by sales mgr), but I have noticed 2 small scratches and this rusty pitting on my running boards.

Any ideas how to get rid of the rust? I asked the dealer and they claim it is "normal". Well for a car stickered at $81k, I don't think 5k miles total is a good interval for rust to show on running boards!

Any help is appreciated.
