Z4 Wheels and Tires

I'm new to the forum, so I just wanted to say hello. I drive a black 2008 Z4 3.Oi that I bought last year, which has exceeded my expectations. Since I live in beautiful upstate NY, she has been sleeping in my garage for most of the winter. I was looking for feedback on what other Z4 drivers were doing when it is time to replace the 225/45R17 Bridgestone Potenzas. While I only try to drive it in good weather, sometimes we all get stuck in a heavy rain. In those conditions or if I want to extend my driving season, I was thinking about changing to all-seasons. I found your feedback very useful and much appreciated. I am also thinking about getting new wheels as well. I was looking at Diamo D37 or American Racing Villians, but also considering new BMW factory wheels, but they are pricey... Does anyone have experience with changing out the wheels from BMW to other types, and if so are you happy....any regrets??? Thanks and looking forward to enjoying this forum.

You may want to look at Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS. It is a runflat all season time. I had the older version wich was not run flat and I really liked the way they handled.

Welcome aboard.

I just bought Michelin MXM4 ZP tires to replace my factory tires. One heck of a deal on these new run flats. Fantastic tire at a great deal ($89).

Can't say I'd find a better deal anywhere.

You might also want to check the BMWCCA classifieds. I found some wheels there a couple of months ago that were a good deal. Welcome to Z place! Enjoy Z drive!:

These seem too good to be true. I can't see where it says they are run flat (which I don't want any way.)

Lots of choices. My preference is Contis DW. But they were not available when I needed a new set and went with Michilin Pilot Super Sports. These are a little mushy for me so I am going back to Contis when I wear them down.

The ZP means Zero Pressure... I bought these exact tires...can't wait until I get them mounted. I know a few people who have these in both run-flat (ZP) and non-run flat. Everyone says great tire.

It has been my experience that an all season really sacrifices to much to try to be good at 'everything'...you'd be farther along if you find a good tire for wet conditions and go with it for the z. Then if you must drive in winter get a good set of winter tires...when you try to find a good 'all season you're trying to find the perfect blend of 'dry traction' "wet traction' Snow traction, and longevity...really the tradeoffs are simply to big to get really outstanding performance in any condition. To get a superb wet traction tire is most likely going to benefit you the most via spring and fall...And the Z typically isn't a 'winter driver' although some do drive in the winter, I myself get a 4wd chevy truck and leave the Z Coupe in the garage over winter...Best of luck to you

I have the continental dw on my 135. Highly recommend. They are also lighter than most other tires so less unsprung weight. They are not all season but good for wet and dry-check the reviews. (They are also not run flats so keep a sealant and pump in the trunk).

I'm also sporting Continental DWs and I love them. You may want to look at VMR wheels also as they look great and are moderately priced!

I live on Long Island and I purchased a set of 17" wheels (about $110 ea which paid for themselves since at $80 a swap 2x a year on the OE wheels I'd be about $640 in the hole now) with Blizzak rft's from the tire rack a couple of years ago and they are great in the snow but a little pricy and after four winters and about 20,000 miles they are shot.

Thanks fellow NYer....your wheels look similar to the American Racing Villians in the link below I am considering. You'll notice a black newer Z4 in their photos, which I think looks great with these wheels.

Nice choice, and the black will hide the brake dust in the winter when it's harder to keep them clean, a quick wipe once a week on the polished surface keeps them looking great.
