buying used - what to watch out for

Yes you read correctly - i drive a hyundai.

But I'm looking to change that. I've eyed a few m5's, 2006, 2007....which have been well enjoyed. But the mileage for their age is not so unreasonable.

Any tips on what to look out for?

And what is the highest mileage you would accept on one?

Your question is very vague, that's why you have not received any answers.

If I were you, and if you're not mechanically inclined, look at m5's with CPO or have it fully inspected by bmw technician before you buy ($200).

Sometimes lower miles do not mean Better overall car. I just bought a 2008 550 m package, fully loaded and CPO until 2014 with 59,000 miles.
The car is damn perfect, not a single leak, squeak, or an issue/glitch..

GOod luck in your search, you've picked a great machine!

If you don't mind me asking - what did you pay for it?

In my area theres someone selling a 2008 550 M5 fully loaded but it has a lot of miles on it (88k). I'm not sure if its under CPO warranty, but doesn't that only last until 100,000 miles anyway? The asking price seems low to me, and we all know if something is too good to be true - it is. However, the seller is very open to an inspection from our local BMW dealer and also says he has all the records of the work done on the car and currently there are no issues. Just really worried that I could end up with huge repair bills down the line due to the high mileage.

If it makes a difference my commute to work is about 16 miles round trip so it shouldn't see much wear in the coming year or two, but I'd want the car to last at LEAST 5 more years. All input is appreciated. Thanks!

I paid $26000 out the door, had to fly to south carolina to get it. I'm very happy with it and honestly don't wish i had an M5. I'd rather have M3 then M5, but 550 with sport/M package is an awesome car.

haha nice!

Does anyone know of potential milestones for running into issues with the M5? i.e. Does anything have a tendency to fail at 100k miles, 120k miles, etc.?
