I ran the remote wire under the dash, past the cup holder (behind the trim), under the steering column to the remote. It's mounted low, with velcro near my left knee under the light switch. I have a clean sightline to the remote. I can take some pictures if you like.

Although I changed it up some, there's a great post somewhere that I used as a guide, but I can't seem to find it now.

Works great - and saved me multiple times...

YES! That's the one. This really helped me out, except I managed to avoid the exposed wire near the top of the A pillar by tucking it behind. Also, since the V1 has a larger remote display, I located it under the headlight switch. This keeps it hidden from passengers and maintains a cleaner look on the console. My detector is pretty much in the same place in relation to the mirror.

Awesome - was hoping it would help someone! Like the improvement behind the A pillar... remote on the left is probably better too but I either ran out of cord length or energy to figure out how to get it on the other side of the steering column - or both...

Thanks again. Even with your guide, the effort was such that pausing to take pictures and write instructions would have been too time consuming. It made me appreicate the effort you put into your guide. It's guys like you that really make these forums valuable.

Custom Installation

For those of you who want the most effective and clean looking installation of a radar detector and laser shifter system, I recommend you consider the following.... A custom installed ESCORT Passport 9500ci system with the display mounted inside the OEM interior rear view mirror. It is expensive but if your driving habits and travels expose you to expensive speeding tickets, the system will pay for itself very quickly. Here is the link to another thread in another forum that explains the system and setup.

Got a V1 4 years ago. Best purchase I made - no tickets. I did turn of POP mode because of the blind-spot detector, easy to do and so far no problems in 3 states. I get probably a mile or so warning through the normal windshield. Never bothered to have it professionally mounted, it goes very nicely with the provided clip on the sun visor. I use it only for long drives, so I don't mind not having it permanently installed

Just to add my two cents.............a V1 and trapster. If you're really feeling froggy then a hidden jammer with a kill switch that'll give you time to brake before they get a reading on you.
