E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

Brakelight wiring

Can anyone help me locate the wiring for the high brake light on my "new" 1988 E30 convertible. I took off the lens to replace the light bulb and there are no wires connected to the light fixture. I can't find any wires in the trunk lid? Where do they snake from the trunk?

someone may have replaced your original lid with one from a later model. seems very strange the wiring isn't there. have you removed the trim panel from the lid and had a look behind that?

No, it's the original trunk lid. I think someone removed the wiring. There is a little hole, about the size of a pea, in the center back wall (behind the back seats) of the trunk. I was wondering if the wire snaked through that particular hole?

I found the wire! It snakes through a hole behind the left rear trunk lid hinge. Someone, in their infinite wisdom, had cut the wire off. The cutoff end was obscured in a plastic wire retainer attached to the left trunk lid hinge. There were four wires in the harness that goes to the high mount tail light. The brown wire was the ground. There is a green wire with a red stripe that connects power to the brake light. I don't know what the other two wires are for. I connected the green/red stripe and brown wire to the tail light and it now works fine. It wasn't that easy snaking the wire to the light fixture, but patience prevailed. Thanks for your help!
