Winter Wheel and Tire Set: How to sell?

Has anyone here ever sold their winter wheel+tire set over the interwebs: eBay vs Craigslist vs through bimmerfest? How much did it cost to ship? Anything I should know?

I'd rather avoid Craigslist - due to my concern about serial killers, criminals and man-rapist dudes.

I'm only looking to get rid of them and don't even know how much sell them for:
205/55R16 Pirelli Winter Sottozero Serie II RFT 210 with TPMS, mounted, balanced on 16x7 Silver Painted Sport Edition F10.

I've had them since December 2010. It's been through 3 winters and there might be one or two more winters left in its tread life.

Thoughts?

You could try this:
http://ebaytradingassistant.com/dire....php?page=home

That page is linked through eBay's main site, so it's legitimate. I used it to find a store that would list and sell items for you on eBay.

Be aware though, such establishments will take a cut of what your items go for. I personally didn't care that much about how much money I got for the winter wheels/tires I had for my old car, I just wanted to get rid of them, so I didn't mind that they took some of the sale.

It was a really easy process. I called to see if they would sell my items, gave them a bunch of info they could list on the auction page, dropped my wheels/tires off, and perhaps about a month later I had a check in the mail.

I've bought and sold via Craigslist, and via the local BMWCCA Chapter's magazine want ads.

Note that prices for used tires and non-oem wheels are pretty low; $100 each wheel/tire is about the most you can expect.

^^^ thanks, this is useful info I terms of pricing and what to expect.

Fortunately, feeding my family isn't on the line with this sale. I'm really just trying to get rid of the rims.

I've never thought of the local BMWCCA newsletters. Good suggestion too. Overall, the e-bay "pro seller" idea just might be the most hassle free method, given my work schedule.

I bought my winter tire/wheel setup from a fellow member of the Windy City chapter of BMW CCA.

Awwww ... serial killers, criminals and man-rapists need tires, too. They might even pay top dollar, given the need to appear for court dates regardless of the weather.

At some deep level I might find a way to empathize with these characters. But sometimes problems are better prevented than solved. I've seen how these things can end...

Shipping tires and wheels can be more expensive than you expect. You pay a premium for the items being round and not box-like. Ask me how I know (I sold a set of winter tires). Ask at the shipping place how much this will cost before committing to a price with a buyer.

True. Even worse, if the buyer somehow doesn't like it and would want to return. All the more reason I'm finding the eBay Trade Assistant a more attractive option so I can let them deal with all this...

Doug, I'll still be driving in winter, but my lease on the E93 is up this fall. I've painfully decided to give it up altogether and get something more "practical"

Local forums are always a good spot to sell wheels and tires. The NEO section of fest, OhioBimmers, etc would all be good locations to start sales threads for them.

^^ thanks ECS!

Update: in the news today, the Craigslist serial killer was finally sentenced to die by lethal injection.

I feel safer now with my future tire/wheel transactions.

If they show up in the below, you should be good. This guy looks legit.

You're probably safe from that guy unless you are one of the few 10 year old girl BMW owners.

But yeah, don't make any transactions that involve "getting in a van".

Ford should look into offering an Econoline that comes with a "rape kit" next to the first aid kit.

We're probably being too hard on socially awkward van owners. Just because a guy doesn't have a girl friend and hangs out at Jonas Brother's concerts doesn't necessarily mean he's a bad guy.

And those stains in the shag carpet interior of the van are probably just pizza sauce.

Uh, unless the fiber evidence is in.

What have you heard?

Sold my E46 steelies with Blizzaks on Craigslist a couple of years ago to a guy with a Z3 coupe. Only issues were loaning him a jack to make sure the wheels would fit, and following him to a local ATM to get the cash payment.
