645CI Increased Emissions

My '05 645CI is great but the check engine light is on constantly now with increased emissions warning. The code reads 29FE Secondary Air System, as well as PO 491. I have taken it to the dealer and they want $8000 to pull the heads and correct the problem. However, they said they might be able to fix it by replacing the air pump pipe and arresting valves for $1400. Help
Anyone near Nashville that can do this job?

The secondary air system only operates while the engine is cold, for less than a minute. If you do not having emission testing in TN., you should be ok operating the car. There is a y in the piping that could be bad sucking air, a bad valve, or the air ports in the heads are clogged. Since you are only getting the 1 code, it might be the y or a bad valve. You could spend a lot of money chasing this problem, so good luck. You should find a lot more info on the 7 series forum, that might give you some better answers.

Good Luck!

Just got a increased emissions error as well. I am not sure what code I got, but my indy mechanic says I just need a hose that goes to the secondary air pump. Might be worth a second opinion.

Nice wheels! As it was explained to me that hose is in a position that runs the labor cost up. $1400 was what was quoted. If anyone has knowledge of good mechanic in Nashville that is reasonable I'll give it a shot.

The intake needs to be removed, to gain access to the hose & valve fittings. The job is around 4hours or less. The average home mechanic can probably do it 8 hours or less. Like As I said the repair is hit & miss.

Good Luck!
