Did any M635csi have front side markers on fender?

Hi folks,

I have been looking around for a 1st gen M6 and am looking at one that makes me wonder if it is a true M635csi.

I Consulted Classsic and Vintage BMW information on this model, and this particular car I am looking at does not have the 170 mph speedometer (it goes to 160) and the front side markers (blinkers) are on the front fender instead of being integrated on the front side bumper. I have not come across pictures that support if this is a true M6 or not, and since I am leary of what might be fakes out there, I thought I'd ask the experts!

Should I have cause for concern? By looking at pictures, it seems easy for one to make a fake out of a regular e24 since all you would need is a couple of M badges, a valve cover, and a steering wheel to fool the casual onlooker.

Can the VIN number tell me it's heritage?

Thank you for your help or for steering me towards a good photo source to compare!

The VIN will absolutely tell you what it really is. All you need are the last 7 digits. Type them in the box here and do the math problem underneath the box, then hit "search":

http://www.rubmw.ru/vincode/eng/

Best viewed in Google Chrome, since it will translate the Russian.

Check the VIN in multiple spots: dash, door frame sticker, fender stickers, to make sure they match, or at least most of them do.

M635 is euro. M6 US. If US, odds are it came with the side lights as per DOT. If euro, they could have been put in during the feralization process

Bert, I've been 'into' BMWs and E24s in particular for about five years and your reply answered a question I'd had for years, that is what's the difference between an M635 and an M6. Thanks!
