  3. having them owe you at the end of the year in the event they come up short?

Sound advice...but I'd just spend it on more dumb stuff. I claim zero and get a big return for reinvesting into my house each year.

Yes.
$50 in my pocket would be spent on booze, women, and video games
$5000 in my pocket would be spent on car, women, and rebreather

All for the cost of what $30-$50 in interest? Let them have it.

Way OT.

Currently downloading a 58.5 GB upgrade to our design software.

58.5GB! For a piece of software that fit on one 640MB CD when we started the company back in 2000. It sure as hell didn't make us 100 times more productive in the intervening 13 years. Did crank the capabilities/costs of the machines we need to buy to run it way up, though.

It's also beating the stuffing out of our office's internet connection at the moment.

What software are you getting? The entire World of Warcraft games (from the original till the last) won't even be that much.
Sheesh. Talk about bloatware. What do you need to run it.

AutoCAD Design Suite 2014. Tons of 3D whizbang.

Minimum to run? 3GHz dual core, 2 GB memory. You should plan to go for coffee between mouse clicks.

What do we run? A minimum of 16GB on a 64-bit machine, and we're thinking about upgrading.

Funny, I thought auto cad way before you said it. I think that may be the most intensive software out there.

What about SCSI or static drives? I used to run 3D rendering software. It would run on my computer and my design partner would run it on her computer. Mine ran about 60% faster and the only aspect that was better is that it had SCSI; hers had IDE.

I just installed a NVIDIA Quadro K2000D Graphics card to keep up with the advances in the public beta of Lightroom 5.

Everytime I do a Lightroom or Adobe Photoshop 6 update it's a 45-50GB download.

Nothing is ever simple.

Gone as in sold. Too many 'Glad I'm still alive moments'. My sis really wanted it out. I miss it already.

45-50gb to update lightroom or photoshop? Their predecessors aren't anywhere even remotely close to that in size. What are you getting with those downloads? It must be every single add-on imaginable and them some extra stuff.

Sheesh....

Actual thread title.

This is the verbatim copy of a thread currently running in the E9X forum below...

Expecting the worst--blow head gasket -- Is this something I could do myself?

It invites obscene comment on a couple levels. I am so proud of my fellow 'Festers that no one took the bait.

Seems like an OK thread, and informative. I don't understand what you are saying

I missed the first line. I've been seeing a couple cross posts recently.

And by missing it I mean I ignored it. I have to ignore 33% of what you type.

Risky plan. If he starts at 33% and you restate the problem to give him 100%, he can bill you for 133% of his time to respond. Consulting 101.

Give the guy a break, he is off to a Euro Delivery this week and someone has to end up paying for the electric steering, tires upgrade, and a hood delete!

No guarantee I will understand, but I'll throw up a multi-dimensional powerpoint that nobody understands, fake it and charge you a lot!

See, this is why you can't work for a consulting firm. You forgot the value added multiplier, mandatory travel consumption add-on (we're green, and first class saves fuel, provides extra jobs, and gets us to the site faster), and after-hours brainstorming sessions. Plus we have to insource local services workers to work our powerpoint decks. All this add's up to approximately 500%, but because you are a valued client we will provide a discount once you hit our requisite milestone*
