2010 M3 with low miles

I did not pick up my 2014 X3 as it was totaled upon delivery and was in the market to configure another BMW. I may end up ordering the X3 again (but not sure if I'd need the extra space or hauling capacity for the next 3-4 years)

Went to the dealership today and test drove a 2011 Z4 and 2010 M3. Z4 was fun but I need some trunk space for travel time.

So I'm looking at this 2010 M3 with only 18K miles on it. It is fully loaded. No options left behind. In pristine condition. Single owner, no wrecks. Dealer asking 50K without CPO. Car has 1 year of BMW warranty left on it.

my CA reported that obtaining BMW extended warranty on the car would be useless since it is worth 5K and will only extend it for 2 additional years. I would be better off with 3rd party extended warranty who can cover 6 years from date of purchase (not date of first service)

How much do non-BMW extended warranty cost?

Loved the M3 drive. I would have to agree with several reviews here which report that M3 definitely feels slow to lift off in day to day traffic (compared even to an X3). But once it picks speed, the stability, handling and fun factor are unmatched. I would be using this car mostly for daily commute (35 miles round trip) and once/twice a year road trips. I feel I'd be doing injustice to the car by buying such an awesome machine and not using it to full potential. I'm not going to track it..... ever.

Is it stable to drive in snow? I live in Indianapolis and we do get occasional blizzards. This year we got 6-8 inches on a few days. City cleaned streets well but I would like to know if the M3 can be relied on as a daily commuter in winter (with snow tires)

Another stupid question to be asked in M3 forum but I'm a little environmentally oriented. What is someone's real world gas mileage like? I clocked my daily commute and I average approx 35-40 mph speed with stop and go traffic. My 2001 toyota avalon gives approx 21-25 so I'm ok with low numbers. Just don't want to see low teens.

My 08 M3 is a daily driver and my round trip drive is 35 miles also. The first few years I got 14 mpg. The last year I have been averaging 16 mpg. Regarding snow, I found out this past winter it doesnt do snow well on summer tires! I have seen folks post that it does fine with winter tires though.

BTW, I passed on the extended warranties due to the high cost. As I recall, the non-BMW warranties were about $1500 less. The non-BMW warranties were only 7 years, at least the ones I saw.

I get around 15.

I paid about $3,600 for +2 years/100K bumper to bumper last year for my 2009 w 22K miles.

In stop and go traffic, you will be doing well to average more then 14. I get 12-15 if I'm lucky on my daily commute. Only time I've ever sniffed 20-21 was on a long highway trip going easy on the pedal. You'll never average 20 in this car unless you're all highway miles. It's a V8 not a boxer 4.

If you buy a good set of winter rubber, any RWD car can be fine in wintry conditions. If you leave the summers on, you'll be lucky to get out of your driveway.

Ok, just reread my details on this warrantee now that I'm near my files, and I had it wrong:

I paid $3,327 for an 84 month (essentially extends my 4 year OEM warranty by 3 years to Feb 2016) / 75,000 miles Platinum (no maintenance) Warranty from United Autocare of Chicago IL (www.mrclaims.net) in Feb 2012. It has a $50 deductible per visit charge.

I'm in Indianapolis also. I drove my 2008 M3 the first year I had in the snow. I put snow tires on it. Actually did okay...As long as you were easy on the loud pedal. However, I liked the car so much, I decided not to drive it in the winter. So, I bought a winter beater. I probably averaged 16 mpg with mixed city highway driving. On long highway trips I could get 22 out of it.
