Compass in Rearview Mirror

I did not get the Premium package in my '14 X1 and made the assumption there would be a compass in the car somewhere...no such luck. I really need a compass. Has anyone pulled a mirror off a parted out BMW or done a mirror swap to see if all the electronics work in the more upscale rearview mirror?

I suppose this would apply to the garage door opener also, although I can live without that.

It appears as though the mirror housing bracket in the X1 is the same as many of the other BMWs leading one to surmise they might be interchangeable. I suppose the other question is if the car is pre-wired to accept either mirror. The dealer from whom I purchased the car seemed to think yes, they are all prewired for either mirror but he was not real certain this was the case.

i did this with my e90 and you need the mirror($300-$600) and the wire harness ($25-30) and it should work. since it is not prewired for power you need the harness. I just returned my e90 and took the mirror back out. If you are interested i will sell it for $350 shipped. The mirror is auto dimming compass and home link. everything works fine. PM me if you are interested.

There are a bunch of threads out there on this. the parts should be like $300-$400. you need to buy a different wiring harness and a new mirror with the homelink + the compass. Did you get the tech package? the nav system should give you a compass..

Thank you for asking. There are a lot of features built into these options but no, I did not get the Tech or Nav packages and thus, no compass.
