bluetooth pairing for 2004 x5 - HELP!!!

hi,

I've been reading all the forums regarding bluetooth but nothing says that you can sync a cell phone to a X5 without a nav.

I have a 2004 x5 without navigation but it has all the features for a cell phone in it: mics, R/T button on the steering wheel, Telephone button on the dash. Given all that, i tried to connect my Samsung Instinct with the car but can't seem to search for the car (it doesn't show it). Is it some that i am doing wrong or is it my car doesn't have bluetooth (if so, then why have all those buttons in the car)? please help..

Thanks
VT

Do a bluetooth search in this forum for all the details. If your X5 has the bluetooth feature, you should have a card with the passkey. Also check under the spare tire to see if you have the module. Earlier posts show pix of the module location. Normally to pair, just put your phone in search mode and key on the X5. If you have the bluetooth feature, your phone will ask you for the passkey.

bluetooth came out on very late production BMWs, give me the last seven of your vin and ill find out for you, or ask a dealer, do you have bmw assist in your X5?
if your car has blutooth, i can give you directions how to pair up a phone to a non nav car, X5 or X3

After all this stressing of finding out if my X5 is bluetooth compatible, I've decided to give up on it.

Thumbs up Never Give up! It works

First of all never give up. I had the same problem. I could see the BMW discovered in my phone but I could not pair with it. It never asked me to enter my four digit pass code. I called BMW north America and talk to an operator. They asked for my vin and wanted to update my info before helping me with the blue tooth. What they are going to help for free! Wow. Well after entering my pin the lady on the phone said my X5 did not come with blue tooth and I must be seeing something else be discovered. I thanked her for her time and was about to give up. Like always I wanted to try one more time. Low and behold it worked. YEAH!!! I discovered the car when I tried to connect it asked for my four digit pin and it connected. A few minutes later my phone book had transferred and I was making calls. My hunch is the X5 came with blue-tooth since the PIN was in the owners manual. I think when BMW updated the owner information it reset the system. Clearing the old owners phone allowed it to receive my phone. This is a stretch as four phones can be added and a fifth add will drop the first phone automatically but I . All I know is it works. The procedure is this.

Turn X5 off. Press the phone button on the steering wheel for 3 seconds
while holding the phone button turn the key on. Wait 3 more seconds and release the phone button. The phone button is the face not the R/T button.

Immediately search for new bluetooth devices with your phone. When you see something that looks like BMW3299 immediately try to connect to it. The pin screen should pop up.

Enter your pin

That is it. Wait a few minutes for your contacts to transfer then push the R/T button to verify your contacts our in place.

Call your best friend and enjoy the conversation.

Just an FYI...if your X has bluetooth capabilities...when you use your cell/smartphone to search for your X...you will see "BMW_ _ _ _ _"...(the last 5 digits after the "BMW" will be the last 5 digits of your X's VIN).

I was having trouble connecting my bluetooth because i didnt have the passkey code. I had to find the pin for my 2006 x5 by going where the spare tire was. Remove the left side panel where the nav dvd is. Under that should be the bluetooth module. To see it and get to the pin u have to remove the black plastic floor with a nut driver(three screws). Once that is off u can take a flashlight and look for the four digit pin after the letters pl. thats how i got mine to pair

Smile Bluetooth module for e53 easy to fit ?

Hi Everyone,

Can I just say I find this forum brilliant and have just joined as I have just bought a 2006 E53 X5 3.0d sport.

It has Sat Nav and the dealer told me it had Bluetooth but there was nothing in the book pack with anything so went into the boot took off the plastic cover to get the passkey for pairing and the module isn't even there !!!!

Is it easy to fit one I am presuming it just slots in and you then plug it in ?? I have looked on ebay to get one any advice would me much appreciated.

I have also contacted the dealer as I am very annoyed as it was advertised as having it and that is what appealed to me might have to ring trading standards if he doesn't agree to buy me one. I have offered for him to get me one and I will get someone to fit it has anyone had much success fitting a Bluetooth module ?? and is it worth it ??

Thanks in advance.

Here's a link to a BT install into an e53 X5...you can read through it and check out the pics to see if it's something you'd want to tackle yourself...or pay to have done: http://www.bimmernav.com/BMW_X5_Blue...tructions.html

Granted, the above install also includes running wires up to the armrest...which you don't need if you have a BT smart/cell phone. You may also be able to find more BT installs on YouTube that involve the VR (voice recognition) module which will include installing a microphone so that you can go hands free etc.

Thats bs that the module isnt there. I feel if the car is equipped for it the module should be installed at the factory as well. When i couldnt get mine to work because i didnt have the pin( the dealer was no help either) i was upset. It took me an hour or so to find how to locate the module using youtube but i wasnt giving up. I feel bad because you were told it was in there and it wasnt. Good luck to you. I would make a scene at the dealer untill they agree to put one in for free

Thank you both for your advice I am presuming because the phone button on the sat nav and the rt button on the steering wheel meant the module was there I defo cant see the module I know Im a blonde bird but my eyesight is okay lol I did get someone else to look but It isn't there Im sure of it. Yes contacted the dealer I am not happy as it was advertised and that's is one of the reasons I went for it I have told him he has to get one put in for me or I will go to trading standards.

Thanks for your advice guys it is much appreciated.

I just bought an x5 from a used car dealer( not a bmw dealer) and im regretting it. When your looking for a specific car you have to go where it is. Also my trade in was on its last leg. I drove it for three days and then brought it back to them with a list of things for them to do. Well and behold they didn't fix everything. I made such a fuss that they are fixing everything at no cost to me. We are not buying 5,000$ cars. We paid alot of money for them snd they should be right. I know cars need service but we shouldn't be held liable for things that should be correct. Especially when they tell you the car has a certain feature and to your dissmay it does not

Smile

Yes you are completely right and thanks for your support I have been on to trading standards I am in the UK and by law he has to sell me what has been advertised luckily he is responding to my emails he just automatically thought it had Bluetooth as it had the sat nav and all the buttons etc but at the end of the day he should have checked the module was there !! I feel really bad keep asking him but he shouldn't have advertised it as having Bluetooth he has been selling BMW's for 9 years so he should have checked it. He is a good dealer I reseaeched before I bought it and it is a very good X5 , 1 lady owner since new it is mint condition apart from that . This forum is great too so much info on here

No problem. I have been going back and forth with the place that sold me my X. They fixed my front suspension but didnt look at the front drivers side brake that was squeaking. When i picked up the car the mechanic's comment was " they are fine". He must have sprayed brake cleaner on it hoping that it would stop. Two days later it started again. I'm calling the dealer tomm and giving him a piece of my mind. I want it fixed and im not taking no for an answer. I'll just take it back to their mechanic on sat and have him check it out regardless. These dealerships are a joke and there should be something monitoring their customer satisfaction
