Tire change before lease end Question

I have 32 K miles on the car and 11 months to go on 12K/36 mo lease. I will be extending the current lease for at least 6 months with BMWNA. I want to do second ED in summer so will extend the lease that expires in March 2014 to August 2014.

By that time, the car will have have around 40-42 K miles on it and likely require new tires upon lease return. I wonder if I should change the tires now and use (around 10K miles) a portion of new tires before returning it!!

Need opinion re: approach to this situation. ALSO, Do I have to replace tires with same company or any company with same specs (i.e: all-season, run flats, 17" )

Thanks.

I had a similar situation on an Infiniti a few years ago. I tried to milk the original tires to the end but didn't make it. I wished I had changed them out earlier. It all depends on how much tread you have left.

You can buy used ones from a junk yard or somewhere else way cheaper and return the vehicle to the dealer

How is the tread currently? If you think it they are adequate for turn in, then get a new set of non-run flats now... and put the run flats back on before you turn it in. You can either sell or reuse the non RFT.

If you are buying a new BMW, run them into the ground if you can. If BMW CPOs your car they will put new tires on it. Also, I have had very good luck with my dealer when buying a new BMW in the same situation, I told them I will buy new run flat junks {they must must have them} on to SELL the car, they buy me a set of non-RFTs for my new car when it arrives. RFTs are the worst. And if you are not getting a new BMW... well do what most dealers do to you...

The tread currently is about 4/32". I plan to drive another 10-12K miles.

Also, will putting non RFT from some company affect warranty in any way?
