When I get home ill post some pics if you like of one you need to get. The options on this vehicle are a must. I picked this car out for him so I know every single option it has. I love my 7 and BMW as a marque but what's right it right. I've never driven a car that ran so smoothe in my life. Feels like your sitting on an expensive couch in your living room .... Problem si it cost spinale what out Cars are going for....

If anyone here believes for even one nanosecond that Mercedes is somehow a "maintenance improvement" much less a "more efficient to your wallet" car, keep dreaming.
I have friends who own Mercedes and a independent luxury and exotic dealer buddy who has told me so many horror stories about Benz it is unreal.
Don't fool yourself. Now I'm not saying BMW is exactly the epitome of efficiency and reliability, because they're not. But hop on to MB World.org or any other reputable Benz forum and read for yourself.

Im actually a member at benzworld.org forum and I have experience with Mercedes as I had an SL500 and I must say from my personal experience: Yes they are expensive to maintain and repair as well as our Bimmers but I have to say in the 2 years I had my car I experienced NO MAJOR PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER !! All I did was replace a battery and window seals on the doors. THATS IT !!!!! Again I must notate that my vehicle was a 1999 and I purchased it with 128000 miles on the clock and then sold it for a 2000$ profit 2 years later with 139000 miles on the clock ... I loved that car it was really an engineering masterpiece for its time and pretty damn bullet proof IMHO ... But I still love my 7 regardless of its quirks

The other 2 cars were my dads cars which he no longer has as he has purchased the 08 sl 550 but out of the 3 cars you see in that pic I would say the White s500 was the most problematic as far as reliability goes

I have to say a few years ago I had a 1985 190E, engine and tranny was original, I sold that car with over 350,000 miles and that cars still purred. A few months ago after having my 1997 Me/Be E420 for over 10 years I sold it with over 195,000 miles. Both of those cars have done well for me. So far so good with my 745li but I did have to replace my blower motor, and fix both my tranny and oil leak.

I miss my 97 e420 and its impeccable reliability.

Same here just brakes oil, antifreeze, ps fluid, brake fluid and plugs lol no gaskets no hoses no leaks no major repairs.

I know the w211 e class wasnt as successful as the w210, makes me wonder. from everything ive heard and seen so far with the newer s550 has been all good; the new e class i haven't heard or seen anything because i don't personally know anybody with these yet.

From what i see on the f01/2 is either hit or miss.

To me i don't see why they wouldn't want the main focus on reliability; I don't know how some of these guys have so many issues and their solution is to trade it in and get a newer one that has the potential for the same problems

It was bcz Chrysler took them over, American cars (in my opinion) sucks. Mercedes were doing so bad that they bought out Chrysler . The W210 were the last cars built till Chrysler came in. The new E class is back to what it was once were reliable.

I see a pattern here....

Notice you are complimenting their build quality from the 90s.
Things have changed. And NOT for the better. I think w can all agree... They don't make em like they used too.

Cars are becoming more unreliable as new technology is add to satisfy users and lighter materials are being used to save on weight and help with fuel economy. Sure cars from the 90s were more reliable because there was nothing to really go wrong. You had an engine, tranny and basic electronics.

Now you have all these gadgets, aluminum and plastic parts to save weight. One example is our tranny pans...its made of plastic. I am sure most of them fail because of slight overheating problems that are not cared for that warps the plastic.... stuff like that is just and example.

The bottom line is you have to pay to play. If these cars were reliable their value would not drop so quickly to the point where most people on here can afford to buy them. Its a hard reality but it is what it is. If you pay 25K less than 6 years later for a car that stickered at 120K you are paying that amount because youve assumed the risk of a ticking timebomb.

Dfel you make some great points there. I must say the ticking time bomb was FANTASTICAL lolol but in all seriousness I understand what your saying but it's still not justifiable to quote me 185$ for an oil pressure sender switch for parts and labor when the switch is 5.95$ and takes 15 minutes to install ... It's just not right to treat loyal customers to the brand this way. I'm sorry but that's just my opinion. I've heard of a mark up and by all means everybody's gotta eat but that's just ridiculous

"Everybody gotta eat"?
Executives at BMW are eating caviar everyday with that type of markup.
