E32 750il Question - Door Locks

The battery went dead in my car. The door locks are electric. I insert the key and nothing happens. How do I get the doors unlocked? WTF?

Try by slightly lifting the drivers door handle then turn the key to unlock the drivers door, This always worked on e34 5 series.

No, its not that the locks are different on the 750 vs the 740 or any other e38...the difference is in the generation of 7 series...e32 versus e38. You posted your question on the wrong 7 series forum. The e32 7series was built between 1988-1994. The e38 7 series was built between 1995-2001.

For any e38 owners reading this...Peter N is correct in that the e32/e34/e36 requires that the door handle be lifted while turning the key in the lock cylinder counter-clockwise. This lifting of the door handle is NOT required on the e38/e39/e46/e53. Totally different design between the old e32 door locks and the e38 door locks.

e38/e39/e46 - from owners manual

e32/e34/e36 - from owners manual
