Sunroof wind noise

I have only driven one other X3 (and it was only a test drive) so I don't know how much wind noise to expect from my sunroof. To me it is quite a bit, a lot more than around the doors or other windows. I can't find any water entering the car but it certainly seems like a lot of wind noise.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My car sunroof makes the noise only at the highway speeds, howver, you can reduce the noise by closing the sunroof lining.

Make sure the panels are adjusted correctly. All other BMW's I have owned recommended that the front of the glass be 1mm below the roofline and the rear be 1mm above. This is supposed to help with wind noise due to changing the airflow over the roof a touch. My 2007 looks to be adjusted the same way and there isn't much more wind noise than any other car I have ever owned with a sunroof. You can also check if the seal is going bad and letting air get by more than it should.

Mine is too loud when open. Anything over 20 miles per is intolerable.

Yes, its actually not recommended you travel over 0km/h with your sunroof open if you value your sanity as the sound will send you nuts.

Not one of BMW's best features the ..............."stationary sunroof "

+1 here. If I'm over 50mph the noise is noticeable, but not unbearable without the liner closed too. It is representative of other vehicles I've owned with a sunroof.

I get a lot more noise when I have the sunroof open on my //M

Does a deflector help at all? I have a 328i and have the same problem.

There is also BMW solution for the wind noise: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/att...b-54-04-09.pdf
*Just replace the moonroof seal with new upgraded one. It is quite a simple one hour DIY operation.

crack the back windows a bit. Solves the problem for me. Nevermind, realized you were talking about it being closed.

Wind noise and water tightness are too different and unrelated things.

For the wind noise, I have had good luck with applying a strip of black athletic tape on top of the seal on the window. Or, you can of course replace the seal with the "new and improved" version from the dealer. That also works.
