Thank you. Mine went into assembly last night. Please keep posting more updates as you get them.

Mine has to be shipped to Boston, so I am expecting a similar time frame as yours.

Your steering looks different than the ones I have seen in other 2014's. I
mean the silver trim that you have on the steering. Love it! Do you think it's a part of the dynamic handling package since you do not have M-Sport?

isn't this the sport steering wheel. At least in 2013 model I think it was the default on 35i (if you don't get the M-sport). On our 2013 28i we got it as part of the sports activity package.

Yes, its the sport steering wheel. I believe it comes standard with the 35i.

Also just found out that the BWM Asisit Program has changed a bit for the 2014 X3. Now we get Concerige Service for 1 year free. Plus the emergency services have been extended to 10 years. I haven't received my paperwork from the dealer just yet so there may be something i missed.

Couple of corrections for my typos above. BMW Assist Program and the Concierge Service is part of the BMW Assist Convenience Plan ($199.00)

I ordered my '14 X3 3.5i on 3/28. I think it went into production on 4/3 and completed on 4/10. I'm picking it up in the San Jose area tomorrow. Amazing how quick this all happened.

Apparently. Dealer said my car arrived today. Not sure how it happened that quickly. Dealer said is was the quickest they've ever seen.

I called BMW for the automated order status in early April and it said it was in production with 4/10 as the estimated completion date. I called about 3-4 days ago and it stated something like at port waiting shipment.

Seems to be significantly longer to ship to the west coast. I don't know how often the trains run but mine completed production on 4/3 and I picked it up on 4/22 the same day it arrived at the dealer.

Ours is still in production, scheduled to finish tomorrow. The strange thing was I called BMW this morning and they said it was scheduled to start production soon. I called back and spoke to a different rep who said it's almost done. Never had this type of confusion on other cars, was strange.

Mein Auto: 2014 X3 M Sport
Just came back from PCD today. Awesome experience. Delivery specialist told me ours was the 2nd x3 and 1st m sport delivery for MY 2014. surprised to see my x3 displayed in the lobby. Have Goodyear eagle tires. 20gb hdd. Only one USB port in the center armrest. No more USB in glove compartment for music transfer to hdd, this is now done with the usb in center armrest. I love the lock/unlock feature which unlocks the door when placing the hand between handle and door and lock by placing the finger on grove edge of the door handle. Heat sensing preset buttons lets one preset any setting like calling a phone number to navigating to destination to ipod to map orientations (north facing or travel direction), just about any setting. m sport steering wheel is very comfortable. will post photos tomorrow. BTW, vehicle had 3miles on it. Drove back home and now the odometer reads 185 miles and 22.2MPG, drove all the way in eco mode . Plant tour on x3 was awesome. After this friday, plant tours are closed for public and expected to open after 18 months due to x4. Will update more as I learn more.

Just called the rep now:

Production complete and waiting to be released to the carrier as of this morning. She said I should get further information from my dealer, as they will have the most up-to-date after this point.

I think ours might be on the same carrier its coming to the same region.

Let me know if you have any more update

There is no reliable way to use either production numbers or customer sales order dates to estimate X3 production dates. BMWNA allots to dealers far in advance production slots by week and engine. Each dealer creates a production order for each allotted 28i and 35i slot with some configuration of colors, packages, and options that the sales manager believes will be most attractive to the dealer's potential buyers from inventory, also far in advance because the dealer has a deadline to use or lose each slot. These orders are assigned a priority 2 for dealer inventory. When the dealer sells a custom order, it is assigned to an existing inventory production order, the configuration is changed to match the customer's order, the customer's name is attached, and the priority is changed from 2 to 1. If the dealer doesn't get a custom order in time then that production order continues through as a priority 2 inventory order. Thus, the factors that govern custom order lead time are the customer's desired delivery date, the dealer's availability of priority 2 production orders still available for configuration and priority change, and the factory's availability of parts to build the customer's configuration. At the time the customer is ready to order, the new car sales manager already knows all of the production weeks that are available to be assigned. The dealer probably will assign the new custom order to the earliest upgradable production order on a first come first served basis. Nonetheless, if the customer does not ask for the production week commitment at that time, there will be no commitment because it is in the dealer's interest to remain flexible in order to satisfy a not yet committed prospective customer who has an unconditional requirement for early delivery by reassigning a customer who has not received a production week to some other priority 2 order for a later week.

This is what we were explained or we could fill in the blanks from our sales person. He said the next slot was for the 2nd week of May. That may not have been true and he may have given us that date in an effort to have us switch to something he had on the lot.

At our Tampa dealer he had about 70% 28i's to 35i's (30%). He said they are selling more and more of them to first time BMW folks (like us) that always wanted but still have that sticker shock from the typical Honda/Toyota. We did the opposite though as I do not want buyers remorse so opted for the 35i motor. Also, we are in no rush for our new car and the anticipation is enjoyable especially for my wife as she plans ahead for it. He anticipated an early to mid June delivery. We will see.

According to the Vehicle Inquiry Report the dealer gave me, my production week is 19 - that's May 6. I'm hoping that it goes in sooner.

Very well explained, leighton. This explanation generally applies to BMW manufacturing worldwide, not just X3.

And after it is finished at the factory, there is the delivery proicess which can involve trucks, trains and ships depending on where in the world the vehicle is going. That's a whole other set of batching or slotting rules and algorithms controlled primarily by "Where is the transport going?" and "Is it full?"
