2 Weeks Before Maintenance Warranty Expires...

What should I make sure to update? My car shows 3000 miles to its next oil change. Will I get a new oil change or do I need to take a road trip?
I know to get new wipers. What else??

No, they will not change the oil until it's less than 1k miles before it's required. However, if the brakes, belts, wipers, brake fluid, anything else covered, get it done. In the last week before my maintenance was up I had them do all that's listed there and they did it happily.

I would go nuts. Have them check valve cover gasket, water pump, turbos. bushings, all the stuff that eventually need an overhaul from 60-100k.

I did`t know you can have the dealer do all of those things if it wasn't`t showing that it needed to be done.

The 535i is due spark plugs at 45K, and it is not on CBS, and a dealer will charge close to five hundred. So, if you are close, have them do it.

Some dealerships look at customer complains as a way to get BMW to pay for stuff, others don't. I read here to complain about my front brakes squeeking. I did, and I got new pads up front. No complaint would be no reason to check, and since they gad half the job done anyway, they put it on the service plan.

Drive as much as you can, take the long way to everywhere. Get within 1k of 45k and make them change your plugs and do what oceans recommends.

At the end of my maintenance thing, I had just below 45k, SA tried to tell me plugs weren't due, I pressed it and they backed down, make sure they give u your old plugs back. I didn't, a coupe months agouti water pump went bad, Indy changed the plugs cause they got fouled from that, showed me the old plugs and said there is no way the dealer changed the plugs back in October, 3 flat spots on the tip that couldn't have happened in just 3-4 months time.

Get as much as you for "free" as you can, once its over its over.

BUT, if you don't say anything, they might not. There is no CBS message that pops up.

See, your subscription to Bimmerfest has already paid for itself.

Remember that the dealership gets compensated by BMW NA for warranty and covered maintenance work. So they have an incentive as well. They just need sufficient evidence to carry out the repair.

My spark plugs were changed by the dealer at 40k miles as normal scheduled service without me having to ask.

Maybe you should get the car inspected by an indy and take the list and pictures to the dealer.

This is not true. The dealership can do an Maintenance Oil change when the car is in within the 3k mileage of the change. I have had this done 2-3 times on multiple cars(545/550/X5) on both Oil and brakes. This was done in conjunction with my car being in for other reasons but my SA did say that they can and would do it. It will show up as an available service when they read the key but the car will not alert you until you are at 1k. You will have to ask for the Oil change, the dealer will not just do it.

You might have a better relationship with your SA than I did, at 3 different dealers here in SoCal they all told me they cannot change oil until it's within 1k miles before required according to iDrive. They did say there was more leeway for other things like brake fluid, pads, belts, wiper blades, etc. Although belts and wiper blades do not throw an iDrive warning, they said it's based on the last time they were changed under warranty.

One of which must have been BMW of San Diego.
Horrible dealership, just horrible.

My dealership was much more willing to work with me.

As I said, some are, and some aren't. While I think the dealership gets a nice chunk of change when BMWNA picks up the cost of service, the SA compensation might not be the same, and, I bet ya dollars to donuts, that what they can charge us for a service is more than what BMWNA reimburses them for it.

LOL, nope, in order of crappy service they were: Irvine BMW, Monrovia BMW, and McKenna BMW. Crevier always works with me, gotta love the SA's there
Crevier also had no problem with modded cars, most they ever told me was "nice car".
