What about a faulty leaky injector? Take it to the dealer if you still have warranty.

That code is a misfire code.. Could be a spark plug, coil, injector or a valve issue... The reason the car ran better is the misfire stopped... It will keep the light on so you get it checked

I am getting a long or rough start after I let the car sit for several hours. It seems smooth after about 10 seconds. This seems to be getting worste. Tonight the car barely started but then ran smoothly. I have 45k miles.

This is really frustrating. I think its the fuel injectors leaking gas but who knows.

The dealer claims they booked until Tuesday because of a 3 series recall. I'm thinking of making a stern phone call tommorow and hoping they'll take it.

Took my car to dealer today and got the brand new loaner car (only 514 miles on it, 528). Driving the loaner, it's seem really under power compare to my 535i. Very quite ride but not much power at all. I thought the engine for 528 should be the same as 535. Maybe I am wrong.
My service advisor nice enough to do all the standard check and oil change even though it not up to the service time yet ... Will see what happen to the check engine that I have

No comparison between the 528 and 535. You have a lot more tq and hp.

Got my car back today in there report show they replace 6 injectors again. Last 3 moths ago, I took the car there and they already replace them but by my SA, he said 2 of them were different part number so it caused the check engine come on and misfire on #4. He told me this time they replaced all 6 with the same p/n different vendor. Confusing....

I guess my dealer isn't the only one who didn't know. BMW changed to a different injector for our cars back in Jan/Feb that will not work with the old injectors. Back in feb I had 2 bad injectors in bank 2 that they tried to only replace those two. When they fired up my car it misfired even more so they decided to replace all six. Now my car runs like a champ, smooth and fast. You figure that BMW NA would tell their techs about the technical fact that the new injectors don't play we'll with the old ones.

I just got all 6 injectors replaced today on my 2010 535i.

Same story here, one of the older style injectors went bad and they had to replace all 6 with the new style injectors.

Do you feel a difference with the new style injectors? I hope these actually last. This is crazy, replacing injectors every year.

I also had my HPFP replaced due to long crank symptoms.

What I've been told, the new injectors are more reliable than the old one and will fix the rough idle issue as long they are calibrated correctly.

Does anyone have the part number of the new injectors?

Never underestimate the sheer incompetence of BMW dealerships. These sort of basic diagnostic jobs are done by guys who have poor training, get paid low salaries, and basically follow instructions on a computer. I am not just making that up, and it explains why a car can be at the dealership for a week, then be released without curing the core defect.

I will post up the part numbers when I get my paperwork back later today.

But what makes these injectors go bad? This has got to be costing BMW a fortune to have to keep replacing multiple sets of expensive fuel injectors.

I noticed that the new part number is the same as the original N63 V8 part. The good news is that I havn't seen many forum posts about failures on the n63.

Yes, it's costing BMW a lot, but it's a lot cheaper than the class action lawsuits and lemoned cars that cannot be CPO'd that result if they DON'T take care of these cars with these issues.

Thanks guys, good to have handy.
The best price I could find was $227 each!

Also here's some info on not to mix them:

Book #: 13 53 8 616 079 / 13-53-8-616-079 / 13538616079 (These formats are used by Genuine Parts Dealerships for this part)
Description: Fuel Injector with Seal Ring - Index 11 or Higher
Manufacturer: GENUINE BMW
Part Note: Also use: (Qty.) (1) 13 53 7 564 751 fuel injector decoupler. IMPORTANT: Injectors with index 10 and lower have a different calibration and construction than injectors with index 11 and higher. Due to this difference, the injectors with index 10 and lower and injectors with index 11 and higher cannot be mixed in the same engine. The index number can be found on the head of the injector after the BMW part number. Example: 13 53 8 616 079-11. "11" is the index number.

I wonder how the 13 53 8 616 079 injector is different in "construction" compared to the older part.

My BMW SA told the new injectors were made different vendor and blending better with the engine after calibrated. That's all I know hopefully I don't have to bring my car back the third time. If I have to bring back the third time with same problem I will ask them to buy it back as "lemon" so I can get the different one

I'm hoping the same. I will say for the last 6k miles on the new injectors and running a aggressive Cobb E30 map, the injectors have held up well. No issues so far.

I have the same problem. This is my first time commenting on this site. I have been looking at this forum over the past 2 years that I have owned my 2008 535i and this is the first time I have been compelled to comment. Two weeks ago, my car started running rough when started in the morning. It would go away as the car warmed up. Then the check engine light lit up. My warranty is up (62k miles), so I took it to a local BMW specialist (not a dealer). They told me two of the fuel injectors were malfunctioning and should be replaced. They further advised me that BMW no longer makes replacement fuel injectors for this engine and that I must purchase 6 new ones at a price of nearly $2,000!

Does anyone have information on a possible recall on the fuel injectors? Would I get any relief, if I complained to BMW? Any suggestions, or should I just grit my teeth and pay the 2 grand?

I believe BMW covers injectors for up to 10years/120k miles, same as the HPFP. Take it to the dealer and ask them. You may have to pay a diagnostic fee, typically an hour of labor, but it would be worth it if they replace all 6 under warranty.

You may want to contact BMW head services and fight with them maybe you get lucky. Each injector cost around $230 bucks not to include labor and the decoupling part yet.Good luck bro!

The injector recall was for N54 engines that have a production date prior to 10/08. It will only cover injectors that fail, which if you are one of these cars you get 6 new injectors when one fails.
