HID Upgrade

OK, after posting about headlights earlier this week, you guys informed me that my 2007 3.0si has regular old halogen headlights. SO.... now I am looking at conversion kits to get that HID/bi-xenon look and safety. There are a lot of kits, ranging in price from $100 to $2,000. Any suggestions from personal experience? I am strongly considering the MTEC HID kit. At $260.00, it seems to fall in the middle of the road price-wise, and is advertised as specifically designed for the Z4 and includes special wiring harnesses so it's all plug and play and done in about 1 hour.

Want to get on this asap, so any feedback would be great! Happy weeekend!

Im not sure about the Z4, but when i asked a place that does HIDs, they said it could fry my Z3s computer. Again, your z4 may be different. I plan on getting Sylvania xFe headlights. They are still halogens, but with a high amount of xenon so you still get the bright white look.

I have just purchased a set of HID and angel light headlights for my z3, still waiting for mine to arrive this week(purchased in the AU). The HID kit is 35w with ballasts that mimic 55w of the original lights so the ECU doesn't see a difference.
Again this is for a z3 but it may give you a option to think about, if your HID a smaller wattage your computer will throw errors so you need to tell your computer not to throw errors(flash the computer with a new set of rules) or get something like I am doing. The lights I bought also have overload protection to save the ECU from any damage.
Haven't received them yet, hope to install this weekend!

Just searched the mars performance site and it's the same pack as I bought fits the E85. Again this is not much use here in Australia, But this might give you some Ideas.

PS I would have Spyder Halo Headlights if they were available in AU, but still these are the best HID kit I have seen(I hope).

Thanks for the lead, but I already ordered a set of the MTEC Halogen to Xenon conversion light sets. Yes, they are more spendy than some of the others, but I really want a set of lights that will give me good visibility without blinding oncoming traffic, without producing error codes. It was a tough choice between the MTECs and the Phillips, but I spoke to a few BMW owners who had gone the MTEC route and were very pleased with the quality of materials and consistency of the light output. I plan on posting a detailed accounting of the installation and before/after pictures.
