Whats your biggest gripe with the F01/F02?

I love my F01, but now that I see so many new 3 and 5 series models on the road, I feel like they are all too similar from the interior and exterior. I just had a 2013 328i loaner, and the inside (iDrive, dash, instrument cluster, etc) is very similar across all models. I understand this was probably done to save cost, but when I had my e65 it was such a different car than all other BMW's - and I have to say that I miss that a lot!

I'm curious what others think about this, and what your biggest gripes/annoyances are with the F01..

I hate the cup holders. They were so much nicer in the E65. For that matter the center console was much better overall in the E65. I miss the stacked drawers for storage also. Door hand grab spots are also awkward. Overall I like the car much better though. Oh I almost forgot the piss yellow angel eyes from the factory and the runflats.

The cruise control buttons moved to the steering wheel. All older BMWs used a simple stalk that didn't require you to turn On the cruise or have to look down at the wheel to set initial speed, change speed or resume. With the stalk you could perform all functions by touch without having to take your eyes off the road. I also don't like the auto adjusting seat belts as every time you drive away after starting the car, the belt tugs on my shoulder to adjust. I always feel like it's secretly trying to strangle me. Otherwise, I'm still in love my new 7!

No automatic parking sensors. Having to push a button has become habit but an unnecessary one.

Need to "code" to get more options, the double pull for example should be in the iDrive settings, the fold-in mirrors should have an option to close in Park.

Nothing so bothersome to push me into a Merc, just annoying.

Love the BMW but catch some of these "small" annoyances since we also drive the MB. Coded for most of them, but parking sensors are a big one since the car is lowered and definitely in curb collision height.

Couple MB things I would love in the BMW: Lane assist doesn't vibrate, it actually brakes specific wheels and pulls you back in the lane, same with blind-spot detect.
Like the auto-hold by just pressing the brake twice.

Would like: Real massage seats and drive-dynamic seats (I think they have dynamic seats in the 13 model now).

My biggest gripes have mainly been addressed in 2013, but it was not having the features available in lower BMW models (8 speed transmission, ecco modes, LCI headlights).

Run flats, tire bubbles and cracked rims.

General reliability, that I am concerned about owning the car outside of warranty.

Cameras not great for parking next to curbs and stops.

Ignition stays on after car is shut off (other annoyances I have had largely coded out).

Nav does not work a easily as wife's Honda minivan.

These are nits, but for me the worst thing is the fuel mileage on my 750Li X is pretty bad, but not unexpected.

I agree with the OP, the interior on the 7 series is almost identical to the 5 series and the new 3 series isn't too far away. Like seriously BMW put some effort and make the interior a bit more unique for the upcoming 7 series because it is the flagship car and it should be different than rest of the models.

I've been out of my `11 MSport 750i xDrive for almost a year now and, as I think about it, have nothing but good memories of my experience with it. The only gripe I can think of, and it's a relatively minor matter, is the positioning of the front cup holders. When in use, cups placed there would block access to some of the dash controls.

Not gonna happen. Let's not forget that BMW (or any other luxury car manufacturer as such) makes its largest profit on smaller cars. It's the abundance of those little pesky 1- or middle-class 3-series and enormous amounts of 5-series sales that let BMW make profit. So they want to make those 1- and 3-series buyers feel like the car they're getting is ALMOST a 7er so it has to look very much like one.

+100 on the cruise control, no idea why did they do it.

I kinda like the automatic belt tightening, makes me feel like the car cares about me : D

I have a 3 and a 7, the 3 is just as much a joy to drive as is the 7. The 3 is not the flagship of BMW, but by far its best selling car, and amazing.

My '12 300SRT had them on the steering wheel too. My best guess is that we'll be seeing more of that as car designers want to get rid of excess stalks. They think that they'll interfere with us using the paddle shifters. And it looks cleaner behind the steering wheel. Ferrari has EVERYTHING on the steering wheel on the 458 Italia. Turn signals, wiper operation, everything - just a steering wheel and two paddles. Saw it on TopGear UK, very interesting.

Whats your biggest gripe with the F01/F02?

When "Jeeves" hits a speed bump and I spill espresso on my nappa leather in the back seat....

Hahaha... J/K ! I love my car, I wish I could have gotten a few more options (camera package, rear seat entertainment) but if I have to pick anything it would be having such a low sitting front end, already scraped a chunk of it... Grrrrr...

I had this option and a few others turned on by coding the car. Very simple process.

Only reason I almost left the brand: Run Flat Tires. All my 750s are leased with extremely low mileage, so I did not want to the hassle and expense of substituting the tires. But the rest made me stay - for now.

1. Cabin noise just too much. Great at low speed, becomes loud quickly as the speed builds up. Tire noise and some wind noise seems to dominate. Compares poorly with the competition (Lexus, Mercedes).
2. Painfully slow and unresponsive steering. Perhaps a little bit better than a Mercedes, bur funny enough less feel and slower than a Lexus. Compensates by a great steering wheel though.
3. Run flats need to go.

Decent car otherwise. I had low expectations getting into one, but it has been one year now and it the experience was not bad overall. Better than I thought it would be.

1) Horrible "premium audio system"
2) My E38 has better "plastics" on the b-pillar (it's padded, vs. the F01 which is hard) and the F01 uses waaaay to much grainy hard plastic textures (the E38 would be smoother or have a very light grain).
3) No steering feel (but yes, great steering wheel), it feels so artificial and doesn't seem to give any road feel. My E38 w/ Recirculating Ball seemed more "connected"
4) The double ignition shutdown procedure... except for one time when I was on a call via bluetooth and forgot to transfer the call, but the conversation continued since the audio was still on. Otherwise, the 1000 other times, I'd like for it to just turn everything off.
5) Run flats (though I wonder was regular tires must feel like), I do feel that it's an improvement over some of the first run flats I owned... oh and there was a flat tire situation which allowed me to drive 50 miles w/o pulling over, that was nice.
6) I just noticed, at night, I can kind of see the gas and temp gauges reflecting off the upper portion of the windshield, it's a bit distracting. Will have to see I if can adjust the seating or brightness levels a bit, thankfully it's not in my line of sight.

I've only had it 2 weeks, so I'm bound to come up with more, but overall, these are really small issues compared to the rest of what the car does so well!

That's actually not true. The 7 series and S-class are cash cows for BMW and MB. They make the most money on those cars. Think about how similar the 5 and 7 series are and how much more the 7 series costs. A few more inches of sheet metal doesn't cost BMW $25k in manufacturing cost.

Excessive oil consumption and crackling plastic noises in the cabin while going over bumps. Better now with non run flats but still very annoying for top of the line car. Otherwise great car.
