If its your crank position sensor the car will turn over but not start. I hate to say this but the way you discribe a vib/rattle when it stopped, I would say look at your timing chain. Take off your oil cap and look down in there with a good light and see if you see anything. Grab the chain too and see if its loose.

Can you hear the starter engaging but it will not turn over the engine ? Sometimes the extra chain or broken guides will lodge in the lower timing cover and bind things up. This could be good, since it was at idle at a stoplight you may not have bent the valves.

Locked up

I had a guy look at it. The flywheel he couldn't get to move. It locked up. He thinks the bearings on the bottom locked it up.i'm going to replace the engine. Almost 179000 miles. 500 for the engine and 5-6 hundred to put it in. I can"t beat that. New gasket, seals, etc. U could barely see a little glistening in the oil. Timing chain was not loose. Any other ideas let me know. Thanks. Mike
